Aggressive and territorioral, equipped with massive jaws and intimidating teeth - their bite force is horrifying and they attack other animals including lions, hyenas and crocodiles, humans and even boats to protect their territory and they're even more ill-temepred when there are calves around. Hippo bulls have been recorded to chase people on land and even push off crocodiles to get to a wildebeest carcass (not complete herbivores after all?) Females are rarely known to attack or even kill a bull hippos when protecting her baby but normally hippoes don't kill their kind.
