@ Arun. Let me take this joker "max" to the cleaners and just let him know that Ayn Rand is known all over the world. Ayn Rand (b. Feb.2, 1905 d. March 6, 1982). Born in St. Petersburg Russia. Educated at the University of Petrograd. Moved to the United States in 1926. Her books were not widely received in the United States. but in Europe, they were the literary rage and her books consistently sold off of the shelves of most book stores in Europe. Two ITALIAN movies were based on her writings. One entitled "Noi Vivi" and the other one entitled "Addio Kira". And here's the best one. The Library of Congress in Washington D.C. has a "Book-Of-The-Month" club. They voted "Atlas Shrugged" as the greatest book ever written second only to The Bible. Gee Max, I have given a person like you who has a brain the size of a pimple on a mosquito's dick, a lesson. Put your brain into gear before shifting your mouth into drive with your comment. I am and never was a fan of Ayn Rand, so how did I get this information about her ?? Its on your computer and its called WIKIPEDIA. You should use it more often you bombastic simpleton of a human being

What Kind of a List is This? It is revolting that you put in Ayn Rand and forgot a vast horde of philosophers in your I don't know, if this sounds insulting American ignorance. Ayn Rand! I mean she is good in Fountainhead, but 68 page diatribes and monologues in a book are hardly ever read by anyone who is not already a devout objectivist, a philosophy which is by the way extremely flawed, and even considered by many philosophy connoisseurs as vulgar and flawed. I would even complain that it was sort of cheating to put religious works in 'books that changed the worl', but that is still fine. but to forget Nietzsche, Sartre, Camus, Kafka, Dostoevsky, Freud and the ilk is appalling!

I just want to put my input into this list. How about "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Harriet Beecher Stowe. There is an anecdote relating to this book. Ms. Stowe had a meet and greet with President Abraham Lincoln just as the Civil War began. Lincoln extended his hand to Ms. Stowe in order to shake her hand and said, "I would like to shake the hand of the lady who is mostly responsible for starting the Civil War"

So did Voltaire, John Locke, Thoreau and many many others before her. It was not a concept that she created you know.

She did more bad than good, in my opinion, by oversimplifying and making it too easy to digest, without the need for any critical thinking.
