I think that the US marines' raising of the flag on Mt. Surabachi would be near the top.
The Hindenberg disaster was another one that seems to qualify as an "incredible historical" photo.

Interesting list, heres a fun fact though #4 the lynching photo was actually made into a postcard. Well i dont know how fun of a fact that is but the first time i saw that photo was in a history course and it was flipped over to show the stamp and some of the writing on the back by apparently someone that was there. For the record the writer of the postcard was sending it to his dear old mother.

Great list, albeit some very tragic images. One image that always stuck in my memory was the young girl trapped in wreckage after the Nevado del Ruiz volcano erupted in Colombia. She was trapped for 3 days in water, concrete, and other debris before she died.
Just horrible. Makes you appreciate life

@74, you are right about Mt Suribachi, the Iwo Jima photo. The flag was raised on the day the Marines secured the island. The photo was taken a few days later. It isn't even the original flag. The photograph was staged by a Life magazine photographer if I recall correctly.

@81, the Great Depression affected everyone around the world, some nations more, some less. The Migrant Mother photo was just one representation of how poverty had affected this family. It's one of a series of 3-4 photos of the family. Secondly, child labor is wrong regardless of where it takes place.
