I'm sorry, but forgive my ignorance. Surely how big a disaster actually is, should be defined by how many lives were lost, therefore one man losing his life competng (while tragic as that is), cannot be construed as big a disaster as say 39 people or 66 people or 96 people losing theire lives.

Well, I hate to say this and I feel sympathy for the victims. But when it comes to the game of soccer and European as well as African nations. It kind of reminds me of another list on LISTVERSE, and that is the list of sociologically, narcisstic people in this society. If a simple game is played and the outcome is that of a victory for a particular team, then the thought of voluntary manslaughter from the fans of the losing team taken into place is a definition for people who have no regard for the well being of another person. Heck, You wouldn't catch me attending a European soccer (football game) event !!! Let's face it. These soccer fans are just simply ZEALOTS !!!!

I think the Hillsbourgh disaster should be on this list. It is one of the worst sporting tragedies in British history and the greatest injustice. 96 Liverpool supporters never came home after the 1989 FA Cup semi-final at Hillsbourgh stadium.
