Great list! Well done. I’m with you bam, bam, bam, bam, bam and then you get to The Thing. I mean, I dig that movie, I do. But the original is the true pioneer and it’s the first “we’re trapped with this monster and its trying to kill us” storyline. The great ending “Keep watching the skies!” Almost because you (rightfully) have The Day the Earth Stood Still on here, I’d put the first The Thing. In one the invading Alien was peaceful, and in one he wasn’t. They were two sides of the same coin that have yielded a lot of good things since.

Some that should be in the conversation in case no one else mentioned them and I haven’t gone through all the comments to find out:

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (I’m sure they’re out there but I’ve never heard of anyone who doesn’t like this movie.)

I agree with all the titles but not the order !! One thing though what does the 5th element have to with such good films ??

Am I the only one with Dune in my top 10?

Yep, never seen a Star Wars or Star Trek movie Might pick up the Star Wars Blu Ray for my first viewing.

Yes, Serenity was great. I had never even watched firefly and saw Serenity. On it’s own merit I thought it fantastic with an unusual story line. In a world filled with movies/shows that you change the cast and could be watching another movie/show, I think Serenity is quite unique.
