RIght, Dave, but you mean "affected" rather than "effected." This proofreading busines is harder than it looks, ain't it?

Seriously though, that effect/affect confusion is one of the most common grammar mistakes. Somewhere in the Listverse there's a list of common grammar error and I'll just bet this one is on it.

I have no idea what the time-frame is for this because you really didn't say. Is this for stuff invented recently? Computers go back about 70 years, even if you don't include earlyforeruinners like Babage's Difference Engine or Antikythera.

What makes a techno item "top?" All technology seems to depend on earlier technology. Doesn't it? You name Linux because of its open-source programming, but that's a decision by the inventor, not a question of technology. The ipod? Really? Are Krays included along with other computers? The technologies that aren't in such common use yet may eclipse all of the ones on your list. Super-cooled helium, hydrogen fuiel cells, organic computers, nanites, genome-mapping...

This might be a decent list if the title told us what it was about...

Modern technology can be a monster and eat you if you're not careful. Computers and the Internet can be considered both a blessing and a curse. As Cyberspace continues to advance, items such as department store catalogues, hard copy newspapers and even "snail mail" could all become a thing of the past by 2020. Another liability is that the human factor becomes increasingly null and void as technology progresses. However, should the net ever crash and computers become obsolete, it would be like mankind would have to learn to count all over again. Ever read Isaac Asimov's "A Feeling Of Power"? That story could become very apropos.

Cell phones in a manner had their genesis within the "Star Trek" universe. After all, they look like camcorders and phasers. Wonder when the "Lost In Space" robot will come to universal fruition?

Nice list, I agree with the the iPOD, it mixes many technological wonders, satelite positioning, VLSI, computing.

What about solid-state accelerometers? These use a laser bouncing around a crystal to determine absoulute acceleration (rotational or linear) of the host computer (ie missile or craft).
