The passage is in Matthew 21:18-21. If you read the passage with your logic,it will appear 'curious'. But there's a spiritual meaning to it. The fig tree is a symbol of the nation of Israel(Jeremiah 24:2,5,8). The tree was full of leaves but had no fruit; it signifies that the nation of Israel was full of outward "show"(of keeping the law), but had no "fruit"(the fruit of the Spirit - Galatians 5:22,23). When v read the Bible, v should not merely read it with our minds, but with our spirit & pray to God to reveal the life in the word we read; because it is written in the Bible,"The words that I(Jesus) speak are spirit & are life".

Yes, context is really important, not only for the Bible, of course. If you quote a book where it says that killing other people is okay, but you didn't bother to read up that it was actually a story by another person in the book to illustrate something, then you've totally lost context. Also, please do not speak bad about some things you don't really know. And with regards to freedom of choice (e.g. religion), don't mob people or hate them just because they believe in something that you don't even have proof of if it doesn't exists really or not. They have FAITH, you don't; they don't kill you or hurt you or maybe do bad things, so don't try and instigate anything malicious. When you hurt somebody or look down on them, thinking you're higher than them, now that's worse actually. If you say that you do good even without religion, but curse others that believe in it, you're not actually being good - that's hypocritical, much like also someone who has religion and doesn't act out the way it teaches for people to be good (e.g. a Christian who doesn't really follow Christ's teachings) (Side note: Christian came from two Greek words, Christ or Christos meaning the anointed one, talking about Jesus Christ, and Ian meaning follower, though old usage refers to it as slave ownership or belonging to, but the context is there to refer to follower). So, basically, what I'm trying to say is, learn to respect others and basically just be good people. We have freedom of choice for religions, but we're not excused for doing good. Well, that's just my insight about this. Good day to Listverseters.

I totally agree...and more importantly, at least the first section is misquoted...Jesus was quoting the old testament, he wasn't making a new commandment (in fact he only ends up condemning those that acted agains their own beliefs...he doesn't say that they should be stoned, etc.)

every peson has a different view. I believe in the bible because the bible is the word of God. I didn't lose anything by following what the bible says in fact it made my life even better.

Some people haven't read the bible and still do good things but why do you think they have the instinct to do good things not bad things and why do you think that bad deeds have to be punished? Where do all these thoughts / ideas came from? Why do you think you should do good things instead of bad things?

This is where a more powerful force comes in...it's because there's a God who made the heaven and the earth and who gave us life. He's the only reason why we are alive think about it we weren't be on earth if God didn't allow us to live and He's also the only one who can take life away.

I think if you believe in God you will also think that the bible is His words it's His way to talk to us. I can't say anything against the bible because it didn't make any damage in my life, is there anyone here who followed the rules in the bible who suffered or became unfortunate?
