Wasn’t Mary Seacole a freed slave? And where would the British nursing profession be without her? The most amazing thing about her story is the fact that the soldiers of the Crimean War loved her so much that they carried her through the streets of london and held a great celebration for her. Florence Nightingale may not have gained the same respect from the British soldiers and their families but was lucky enough to be white… Hence she’s the one we all know about. Everyone – look up the great Mary Seacole.
