Thank you for bringing attention to Turing. I didn't know that and I think that one might be the saddest of the list. In a weird sort of way, I think that Eastman's suicide was almost….understandable. Not the best word, but that's OK. He reached the top of his mountain and went on a good note.

I would suggest there is no correlation between suicide and having a brilliant mind. Suicide is a problem of the human condition, not about how brilliant you are.

It is easy to try and pigionhole scientists into the same kind of person but you can’t. For every social misfit like Newton there is a social butterfly like Liebnitz. They both invented Calculus but their approach to life could not be any different. For every Edwin Armstrong there is a Richard Feynman. I am sure Feynman had some bad days but I can’t think of anyone who enjoyed life more.
