The number one, most depressing movie I've ever watch was, The 7th Continent, by Michael Haneke. I've never seen a movie more depressing than that. (Note: if you suffer from depression, do NOT watch it, seriously.)

Oh yeah, and its not exactly an emotional heavyweight, but Harsh Times was, well, harsh. Christian Bale is excellent as usual.

No, the depressing thing about A.I. is that in it, it is completely normal to replace a dead/dying/hibernating child with a robotic facsimile that lasts forever, and stays a child forever. The parent in that film have to be the most damaged, obsessive, selfish, completely un-self-aware, mentally ill, possibly retarded people shown in film, because of their desire to have an object-that-resembles-a-child in their lives forever-and-ever-and-ever. *shudder*

Now that a lot of these clips have been removed from YouTube isn't it a shame that you did not comment on these. I would have liked to read your interpretations on these.

I know this is 4 years old but i thought a recent movie called 'Precious' was such a depressing movie, literally it has no hope through the hole movie however you feel the need to watch it until the end to see if it turns out alright, I believe Oprah had a big role in making the movie... so you know it has to be good :)

If any film makes a pro-death penalty statement, it is "Dancer in the Dark". Even if Bjork hadn't committed a capital crime in this movie (a fact of which I am still unsure, having fallen asleep while attempting to watch the movie with 3 different girlfriends), her screeching and wailing alone are enough to warrant execution. If Bjork were simply taking a tour of a prison and started her two-cats-fighting-each-other-to-the-death-in-a-burlap-bag moaning, it would justify hanging her. The clip provided is a) still available because none of the 12 people who saw the movie in the theater are around to flag it as copyright infringement and b) a perfect short film all to itself. I honestly worried that breaking her neck would not make her stop that damned noise.
