Do you really believe that a better camera will make for a better shot?!
so naive.

So, if I buy a professional sewing machine, I will make a better clothing than a person who has been doing it for years and made his/her living off of it? Good lord, how naive are people?

One thing I can definitely say about taking photos is to get the right kind of camera (digital is definitely the in thing now). When I was on vacation a few years ago in New Jersey, I had a disposable camera with me. Most of the photos came out great, but one neat photo I tried to make was ruined because of the cheap camera. I was on a balcony overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. I had the idea to position the camera just right so that I would have a picture only of the ocean- no building, no shoreline, nothing, just one expansive ocean view from above. It would have been a killer shot on digital film... but the disposable showed the edge of the building on the right hand side, ruining the effect. In frame right before I took the photo, there was no building at all (it would have helped if it had had a zoom lens).

Sometimes, though, you can make great shots without even trying. In an example of disposable done right, I took a trip to St. Louis, and got far enough to take a distance shot of the famous arch. When the film came back, I found that I took the shot under a building's arch, creating a neat opposite effect (the building arch was horizontal, the Arch was seen sideways). It was done without even meaning to, and is pretty darn cool.

though having a good camera is an advantage, it doesn't really play the role..

my photography teacher (an award winner photographer here) once invited different types of photographer, some were fashion, food, landscape, portrait photographers and there were others..

they always start with this statement: "your camera doesn't matter, its you who take controls of it"

and of course, they always say that film is better than that of digital..
