Holocaust by Big Star,

is in my opinion in its own league when it comes to depressing. For me its the definiton of depressing

@ J.T. (Sorry I entered my blog too soon). You have mentioned the rock band Marillion and putting in my “2 Cents” worth, and them being from the “Pink Floyd” camp. To me, they sound almost exactly like Genesis when Peter Gabriel was with them. I have there album entitled “Fugazi”. I would put them as one of the most overlooked and undderated bands ever. Hopefully people will wake up and start asking you about them and their lead singer Fish and then they’ll go out and buy their CD’s and listen to some real music.

oh and by the way… there is a 10 minute promo video for this 72 minute album about … “An individual who has experienced a surreal and bizarre happening and is trying to determine if it is reality or a descent into madness…” on their front page http://www.edisonschildren.com.

“A Million Miles Away (I Wish I Had A Time Machine)” is the big single off this record.

Edison’s Children’s the Awakening is perhaps the perfect example of the epic song. A dark haunting experience with it’s triumphant lead guitar solo at the end reminds many of Comfortably Numb. Not surprising considering that the band is led by Marillion… who come from the Pink Floyd camp. This album has only been released in the past month and is already one of the top bands (#1 in the world in popularity chart changes in the past month) on Last.FM. Brilliantly haunting stuff… especially for the Pink Floyd lover

“dumb” by nirvana is pretty depressing.

“corduroy” by pearl jam is depressing because it sounds like they’re saying whoever the singer was fighting won, but he kept up his defiance.

“airplane” by filter, “ocean breathes salty” by modest mouse, “rosemary” by the grateful dead, “here’s where the story ends” by the sundays, and other such songs sound depressing because it sounds like the only way the singer could deal was with massive doses of opiates.

“last caress” by the misfits because they pegged that sound of utter resignation of someone about to kill themselves or commit mass murder or something.
