Definately Hero of War by Rise Against, I cant tell if its a slap in face or not, but it’s terribly depressing.

I am soooo glad you included Jeff Buckley. What he did for music the short time he was here to play it – WOW. And Radiohead, you can never go wrong with a Radiohead song on any list.
I have to throw another one in here. Just like everyone else has done. Can’t help it.
“Cheers Darlin” by Damien Rice. It gets to me really bad, especially the wailing sadness at the end.

Yeah this list has only one or two songs that I’d (potentially) agree with. Making a depressing song is more than *just* the lyrics. The overall sound of the music should be sad, hopeless, emptying. It usually excludes punk for me, which can have sad lyrics but upbeat music. Personal meaning is also a great effect in choosing your saddest songs.

Also “Videotape” by Radiohead. And if I had to pick a Beatles song, I’d go with “Julia”
