Definately Hero of War by Rise Against, I cant tell if its a slap in face or not, but it's terribly depressing.

I am soooo glad you included Jeff Buckley. What he did for music the short time he was here to play it - WOW. And Radiohead, you can never go wrong with a Radiohead song on any list.
I have to throw another one in here. Just like everyone else has done. Can't help it.
"Cheers Darlin" by Damien Rice. It gets to me really bad, especially the wailing sadness at the end.

(After having listened and relistened to every song on the list 4-5 times)
Oh, I'm sorry, this must be the metrosexual list.

Yeah this list has only one or two songs that I'd (potentially) agree with. Making a depressing song is more than *just* the lyrics. The overall sound of the music should be sad, hopeless, emptying. It usually excludes punk for me, which can have sad lyrics but upbeat music. Personal meaning is also a great effect in choosing your saddest songs.

Here's my list:

10. Fade to Black by Metallica
9. Epiphany by Staind
8. Hello by Evanescence
7. Hurt by Nine Inch Nails
6. Suicide is Painless by Marylin Manson
5. The Burning Red by Machine Head
4. Down in a Hole by Alice in Chains
3. Bother by Stone Sour
2. For My Fallen Angel by My Dying Bride
1. Casmir Pulaski Day by Sufjan Stevens

Maybe, I have a whole depressed playlist, at: http://www.playlist.com/playlist/14383875339

@valerie (<a href='#comment-91336' rel="nofollow">304</a>):
THANK YOU for mentioning Strange Fruit! Even though it isn't rock, this is by far the most depressing song ever. I'm getting all teary eyed thinking about it.

Also "Videotape" by Radiohead. And if I had to pick a Beatles song, I'd go with "Julia"
