I've really found all the information here, very interesting. I am a carer, one of the ladies I cared for passed away on 18th January 2012 but only got cremated on the 8th February. I was wondering how they managed to preserve her body, for that length of time. I have always thought about doing something like this, I mean you have to have a caring an compassionate heart, to do both jobs. The only difference is really is, the people I care for are alive, but it is the same , kind of care and attention that you give. Well done. This relly puts my mind t rest, to know that, the loved ones that I have lost, have been well cared for, and given the respect thy need.

I think embalming a dead body, putting it in a room for everyone to stare at ... is weird. It creeps me out big time. Why would I want people looking at my dead body? I don't understand how people are ok with this.

This is amazing. I hope I can find a collage close by that I could become an embalmer at. That would be just great. I've been a CNA in a nursing home and I've done phlebotomy at a hospital so embalming would seem wonderful after working at a nursing home and trying to stick people that don't want to be sticked.

I love being a mortician. This is what i was destined to do. it is mentally and physically exhausting at times, but as long as i see a family walk away with good lasting memories of their loved ones, and achieve some closure that makes it all worth while. you may think im weird, or morbid. but that isnt the case. we're doing gods work. i thank those that stand up for us, and for those that dont get to know a funeral director. this is a great article, some word usage is poor. we dont sew the mouth shut, you wouldnt want to see that.

here is a poem us undertakers pass around:
"Oh you're a funeral director? what do you make?"
What do I make? I make your child presentable after they get killed in a car accident or your mom finally look healthy and at peace after she fights disease for years as a shell of herself. I make suggestions, decisions, and speak on your behalf when you're so overcome with grief that you cant even remember your name. I make my family wait to open Christmas presents or eat Thanksgiving dinner because I'm at work helping you. I make every minute of my work a formal occasion by the way I dress, speak, and act--and I do that out of respect for you. Thats what I make.
