let me start by saying this is a pretty good list... however, your are missing a few dogs, some comments are false and yes, those are not boerboels. i think what they are are coros or corso, pressa canary mix. i have seen some with docked tails that look similar.

yes, u re right... pitbulls do not make good watch dogs. not because they cannot take down a man (a pitbull will seriously hurt a man... even one not scared of dog), but because they are so dog aggressive. all a smart criminal would have to do would be to bring another dog with him... the pit would fight the other dog while they robbed your whole house... and stole the your tired pit after. however, it is NO dog that can stop a "full" blood, well bred pitbull in a fighting situation. as jack russels are breed to kill rats... pits are breed to kill dogs. ANYDOG. they range in weight from, 20lbs - 90+lbs. i have seen some big "TRUE" pits. when a pit goes over 60lbs (27lks). he is in "catch weight". most in and even under that range, will kill any size dog if not another pitbull.
did u also know that pits are one of the few dogs that were breed NOT to bite humans. if they were people bitters they were put down or not breed (i am speaking of true "game" pits. not the "mutt" pits people tend to confuse them with).
the ones i have helped train or seen trained to attack had to be tricked into thinking it is a game.

u are missing a few dogs, but the two key dogs u are missing are: the Canary Dog (presa canario) and the Fila Barsileiro. these dogs are easily in any top 5. where as the Fila should be number one on most list. most of the dogs on your list are duel purpose dogs. they guard more out of being cattle dogs, high i.q.'s and training, then from being an "instinctive" guard dog against humans. i've had dog trainers (from military, police to personal protection) say that their is no dog close to the filas capabilities when it comes to guarding and taking down "humans." the fila is like the pitbull in a way that it's primary purpose was guarding, tracking (hunting) down and killing humans. they need no training and are very loyal. usually a one owner dog which makes them not very good "family" dogs. however, i have seen a few that were great family dogs. they have also been used for large game and fighting, but that is not their original purpose.

other than that, great list! i love talking dogs... always good to see and hear other dog lovers.

I have a Dogo (Argentinian Mastiff) and Doberman. They are the sweetest dogs I have ever known. It all depends on how they are raised. I have three kids, 4, 2, and 7 mo. These dogs will let them pull on their ears, ride them or drag them around the house. They get bad reps but do not deserve it. I could not ask for better dogs!

All this anger and controversy surrounding what dog is best is a waste of time. My dog is a shelter dog. A mutt. I have absolutely no doubt that he is the best guard dog. There is a stop sign in front of my house, and if someone stops there for a moment longer than my dog believes they should he will howl and bark. He barks at the doorbell. He has never even growled at anyone who was in my house with my consent, and he loves to play with the kids on my block. A good dog alerts his owner to danger, and then it's over because I have a gun and am a great shot.

i have a husky-wolf cross, and she's the sweetest dog ever, easy to train, and just a marshmallow she gets along fine with my two miniature pinschers too..... I think it really comes down to the training and handling of a dog, depends on how they're treated I guess.
