The “will avoid eye contact” part is wrong. Liars tend to OVERLY use eye contact in order to seem more trustworthy.

I find some liars often smile while or after they lie… If what they’re saying isn’t funny, but they’re smiling at you like someone who’s licked all the cream they knew you were saving for your strawberries…there’s a good chance they’re lying!

I quite liked learning that the “I did not…” as opposed to “I didn’t…” is a tell. I don’t know if it’s an English thing, but here in the UK a lot of lying politicians will go one further and after using “I did not…” will add a superlative adverb that always rings in my ears like a giant liar bell.

Some liars are compulsive. I’ve learned after the fact that people have lied to me about stupid petty things…it’s very bizarre, but I think for some people compulsive lying is about controlling their environment or the people they lie to.

Number 2 is just NLP which isn’t very reliable as everyone reacts differently and people are more likely to look you in the eye when lying because they know of this. The list that Ravyn gave was just NLP.

interesting. Some of these things I use to do profusely when aruging with my ex because once he’s made up his mind I could never convince him he was wrong; I’d be defensive, leave out contractions so I was OVERLY clear and repeat his words back to him in my answer so I was leaving no room for interpretation on the matter “Did you move my cigarettes?” “NO! I did NOT move your cigarettes, stop asking!” guess I know part of the reason he thought i was lying – assuming your list is fairly accurate.
