Daniel, try not to be so sensitive. I don't think he meant to criticize.

don't get me wrong, I approve of any institution displaying it's power though wealth, as this can honor itself. Naturally the representative of a culture's god should be dressed to show power and wealth to honor that god.

I also understand that the pope owns none of his regalia, and he is displaying the wealth of his church not himself.

However, the fact of the matter remains: Jesus preached that wealth distracted from spirituality, yet his alleged representative lives in luxury surrounded by gold, jewels, expensive velvets, furs and other pretty things. Again, I get that there is more to it than that and, considering all the details, it makes sense. Still an interesting irony though.

Oh… And the regalia can so be put up for sale. The spanish Tiara, donated to the Vatican by Isabella of Spain, was sold. Though, to be fair, the proceeds were given to the poor and not kept by the pope or the church. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Tiara)

isnt humility is one of the of beatitudes .why the splendour. no whee in the bible it says that god has assigned one representative of God.if doctrinally its not supported then th whole christianity(christ likenesss) is out of the window.if the pope wasnt living in a palace would he get all he respect which he get, simply of the basis of doctrines and christ-likeness
