IRC is Internet relay chat, started sometime in the late 80s. I first used it in college sometime in 1990, using a client BigCheese wrote for Unix. There was a Vax port as well, but it was a heck of a lot slower, not to mention buggy. I ported the first client to the old Mac OS (can’t even remember which System version it was) back in ’91. Thanks for bringing back some fond memories, Jamie. Back in its heyday IRC would have about 200-300 people logged in worldwide, mostly hanging out in #hottub, or #hack for the geeks.
