Following our list of quotes from St Thomas Aquinas, this is the second in our series of famous quotes from great atheists and great religious minds. Here are 15 quotes from some of the greatest atheist minds in history.
Quotes 1 – 5
1. Creationists make it sound like a ‘theory’ is something you dreamt up after being drunk all night — Isaac Asimov
2. I don’t believe in God. My god is patriotism. Teach a man to be a good citizen and you have solved the problem of life. — Andrew Carnegie
3. All thinking men are atheists. — Ernest Hemingway
4. Lighthouses are more helpful then churches. — Benjamin Franklin
5. Faith means not wanting to know what is true. — Friedrich Nietzsche
Quotes 6 – 10
6. The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one. — George Bernard Shaw
7. Say what you will about the sweet miracle of unquestioning faith, I consider a capacity for it terrifying and absolutely vile. — Kurt Vonnegut
8. I believe in God, only I spell it Nature. — Frank Lloyd Wright
9. Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest. — Denis Diderot
10. A man is accepted into a church for what he believes and he is turned out for what he knows. — Samuel Clemens
Quotes 11 – 15
11. The whole thing is so patently infantile, so foreign to reality, that to anyone with a friendly attitude to humanity it is painful to think that the great majority of mortals will never be able to rise above this view of life. — Sigmund Freud
12. Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful. — Edward Gibbon
13. The church says the earth is flat, but I know that it is round, for I have seen the shadow on the moon, and I have more faith in a shadow than in the church. — Ferdinand Magellan
14. Not only is there no god, but try getting a plumber on weekends. — Woody Allen
15. It’s an incredible con job when you think about it, to believe something now in exchange for something after death. Even corporations with their reward systems don’t try to make it posthumous. — Gloria Steinem

In spite of all these well-turned phrases by famous atheists, and in spite of my disavowal of organized religion, I have to say that, no matter how big the universe is, or what started it, SOMETHING started it. If it was a Big Bang, fine, but what caused the big bang? As a geologist by education and a “general scientist” by inclination, I MUST look to initial causes. I can satisfy myself with plenty of mysteries that are being solved regularly, but that one big one is still out there. I don’t care so much about the “Why” as I do about the “How”.
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right: As an agnostic, I see two sets of believers, both of which can be annoying at times, and in their own way: theists and atheists both have drawn definitive conclusions about a thing in the absence of evidence. At least most theists will openly admit that they have concluded something on faith alone. Most atheists, on the other hands, remind me of Lord Kelvin, who concluded, as it was his BELIEF — in the absence of evidence — that x-rays were a hoax (i.e., did not exist).
God Bless
Haaaa, Diderot. He, and the other frenchmen of that time, sur knew how to talk
This particular list is awesome, unlike some points on the previous list I commented on.
There's no such thing as god, we made him/her/it up to redeem ourselves because we know we're doing things wrong.
The atheist can't find God for the same reason that a thief can't find a policeman.
Author Unknown
Let all mighty GOD be GOD, and let every other man be a liar, quote from GOD himself….a CHRISTIAN has everything to gain and nothing to lose, the reverse is true for an atheist…psalm 53, the fool has said there is no GOD…did you get that? GOD say`s you are fool….if we evolved from primates, why have`nt the other primates became humans? it`s far easier to believe in GOD than in evolution….
of course it's easier to believe in god. Pesky things like fact and common sense take up too much brain power. Creationists ignore what they don't understand (which is a lot)
This implies that there are facts against the existence of God… which there aren’t… and that all people who believe in God are creationists, which they aren’t.
Jussayin…
I love being an ATHEIST!
Atheist!Why condemned?
I have a better chance finding a genie than a guy in the sky- Freddie Rodriguez
Edward Gibbon did not say that quote, it was Seneca the Younger
Explore nature, learn math, and read the whole bible cover to cover, then I will listen to you with respect and reason. Failing that, you are a child complaining about being wet in the rain.
The number of comments here by believers attempting to specify that some of these quotes are about organised religion and/or the church rather than about god miss what is blatantly obvious to thinkers. They are inseparable. One is the other. Without religion there is no god.
Unless you are deluded enough to think that everything you feel you know about god came directly from god, one on one, your only source of knowledge of god comes via the church and is therefore hearsay, not god's word. This attempt at separation is merely a way for modern Christians to feel that their beliefs have nothing to do with all the horrible crimes against humanity done by the church or in the name of their god. You can't rationally separate them. What you accept as true has come from the most corrupt institution that has ever existed.
And please stop claiming prominent atheists and agnostics of the past as believers. It is blatantly dishonest. I thought your god was against dishonesty.
p.s. Quote #12 is usually attributed to Lucius Annaeus Seneca (often known simply as Seneca, or Seneca the Younger).
Rene Descartes,Nikola Tesla, and Albert Einstein defeated all famous Athiest with their Soul, their Heart, their Mind and OUR GREAT GOD..
Atheism is a religion just like OFF is a TV Channel – myself (My reply to someone who told me the other day that I was religious and ATHEISM was nothing but, another religion. The whole group laughed at him.).
The list has quotations well said. No wonder, atheists are known for being practical and therefore more intelligent (or the other way around “Practical people are atheists”?).
And it makes me laugh how BELIEVERS could argue with atheists – they’re “believers” ’cause they “believe”, never question. Their basis of thinking is crude. It is different that they can later catch ideas from the air to justify their FAITH and mock the atheists. Every criminal can justify his crime at least to himself. Every logic and illogic can be justified. You can’t argue and turn atheists to BELIEVERS and vice-versa. Arguments have little effect. You can’t argue and find whether it is the Earth and all planets that revolve around the Sun, or as allegedly said by bible; you have to experiment. Sad to say I have to ARGUE with some to say that. Bible is not a set of research papers sent by “God”; it was MOST PROBABLY written by know-it-all poets and writers, who wrote fairy tales pleasing the ears. God is nowhere but in your brains. A psychologist like Sigmund Freud can understand that. You may say I’m trying to be a know-it-all as well, but it is just the opposite: I don’t support the God-exists theory till I’m fully convinced by some material proof (Unlike the claimed atheists-turned-theists who saw “God in dreams”). Till then, I’ll say “I DON’T KNOW IF GOD EXISTS, BUT SINCE IN MY LIFE, I NEVER SAW ANYTHING SUPPORTIVE, I COULD SAFELY NEGATE THE THEORY.”
Talking about being righteous, not-to-stray, etc. I myself am the best example I know. In the last 18 years of my life (YES I’m 18. Old enough and have a degree in psychology though a student of engineering), I have always helped people including strangers irrespective of their caste/religion (few people in India do) selflessly (’cause I don’t believe in Heaven-Hell).
Karan, I think you might have yourself confused with the agnostics, most of whom have drawn no conclusions one way or another, based on insufficiency of whatever evidences they require. Agnostics, however, and generally speaking, aren’t “ON” or “OFF”. They are content to remain closed, but open to being open, simultaneously.
Theists and Atheists, by contrast, are closed, as they have drawn a specific conclusion about a thing in the absence of evidence or proof to the contrary. So while theists “believe” (read=have concluded positively) in the existence of deity, Atheists “believe” (read=have concluded negatively).
Oh, and spare me the whole Flying Spaghetti Monster/Santa Claus/Easter Bunny “Argument by Ridicule”. It is a logical fallacy, but also a projection of how you “FEEL” about the likelihood of the existence of a deity — nothing more, and no differently than how Lord Kelvin “FELT” about the ridiculous notion of X-Rays, which he declared, conclusively, and in the absence of evidence, to be a hoax.
Like it or no, Karan, the moment you or anyone responds or weighs in with a conclusion on any matter, pro or con, you are, inescapably and by that very act, a “believer”. And if your conclusion, pro or con, is about something for which there is no proof or definitive evidence, then that “belief” must be said to be based on faith. The only difference between most theists and most athiests is the fact that theists are not in denial over, nor do they have any qualms concerning, the fact that their particular belief is based on faith.

And I’ve never masturbated, nor had ***** (for those who’ll say I must be a nerd, I’ve been asked for ***** once and proposed another once, which I rejected, given my practical nature. I saw no future with those girls. They are good friends still though. BTW, I will marry. And YES I’m otherwise *****ually and medically normal.). I’m never afraid of dark ’cause I don’t believe in Ghosts and Gods (similar psychologically). Tell me to walk on an empty road at midnight and without a shudder, I will. We were taught Moral Science as a subject and it is ironic that the teachers (nuns) used to hold my essays as a model. Yeah, I wrote about god silently laughing to myself. I’m friendly with and respectful to all. Ask my neighbours and friends: they won’t stop praising me. The whole thing I wrote qualifies my nature and way of thinking. I gave perfect reason for everything and it contains enough points to settle an argument from a BELIEVER. Remember my name. You’ll watch me on TV one day. Those saying I wrote an autobiography, read it as an autobiography then. Okay, I’ll call it a day. Criticism invited.

DESIRING GOD’S WISDOM Wednesday – March 12, 2011
“To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are his.” – Job 12:13
On June 28, 1787, Benjamin Franklin delivered a powerful speech to the Constitutional Convention, which was embroiled in a bitter debate over how each state was to be represented in the new government. The hostile feelings created by the smaller states being pitted against the larger states, was so bitter that some delegates actually left the Convention. Benjamin Franklin hosted the 55 delegates attending the Convention. Being the senior member of the convention at 81 years of age, he commanded the respect of all present. Addressing President George Washington and the assembly, Franklin said:
“Mr. President: The small progress we have made after 4 or five weeks close attendance & continual reasonings with each other—our different sentiments on almost every question, several of the last producing as many noes and ays, is methinks a melancholy proof of the imperfection of the Human Understanding. We indeed seem to feel our own want of political wisdom, some we have been running about in search of it. We have gone back to ancient history for models of Government, and examined the different forms of those Republics which having been formed with the seeds of their own dissolution now no longer exist. And we have viewed Modern States all round Europe, but find none of their Constitutions suitable to our circumstances. In this situation of this Assembly, groping as it were in the dark to find political truth, and scarce able to distinguish it when presented to us, how has it happened, Sir, that we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of lights to illuminate our understandings? In the beginning of the Contest with G. Britain, when we were sensible of danger we had daily prayer in this room for the divine protection.—Our prayers, Sir, were heard, and they were graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a Superintending providence in our favor. To that kind providence we owe this happy opportunity of consulting in peace on the means of establishing our future national felicity. And have we now forgotten that powerful friend? I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth—that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings, that “except the Lord build the House they labour in vain that build it.” I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall become a reproach and bye word down to future ages. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing Governments be Human Wisdom and leave it to chance, war and conquest. I therefore beg leave to move—that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessings on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business, and that one or more of the Clergy of the City be requested to officiate in that service.”
You all are close minded. I tried to post a letter from Franklin about looking for God’s assistance and call for prayer before meetings and your site refuses to post. Open your minds and you will see God!
These are great… but… the Magellan quote is spurious. There’s no reference to him having said that until the 19th century, when the myth that those who lived in the Middle Ages thought the Earth was flat became popular.
It was a known fact by the 3rd century BC or so that the Earth was not flat.
AWESOME WORDING ……………….and ……………..1 thing no god no relegious facts ……………………only humanity………..
thanks god for making me an atheist LOL
Faith means not wanting to know what is true. — Friedrich Nietzsche
The quotes of atheists are fools gold as is the above. It was because of the Catholic belief system that man came upon rational thought. The Catholic Church developed the Universities as Catholic thought dictated that since God created an ordered universe and man can understand that universe one of the ways to know God is to know the universe. Hence they were leaders in education and science.
This is not only false and pretentious (1 – you speak as if Catholicism was the only relevant religion; 2 – you speak as if there ever was only 1 Catholic Church), it is, more importantly, irrelevant towards the quote you chose to mention. This one doesn’t address religion, but faith, an individual process. It doesn’t say that a Catholic wouldn’t try to understand the universe. It’s a fact that many did and do. It doesn’t say that faith and reason are mutually exclusive; we all know that there is an infinity of numbers between 0 and 1. What the quote points at is the consequence of the unquestioning nature of faith.
“one of the ways to know God is to know the universe”
Then surely you can use Nietzsche’s quote to your advantage in that regard. I can imagine people refrained by the fear of losing their faith if they question it, but, as already mentioned, many a religious man has dared expanding his horizon before. Today, in most countries, it doesn’t even require the big set of balls some of these past men have needed.
The Catholic Church also excommunicated Galileo and sentenced him to house arrest for the rest of his life for daring to suggest that the Earth was not the center of the universe.
Questions are not to be found or answered in the Bible. The question is the Bible it’s self.
Quote by Dick Allen
12. Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful. — Edward Gibbon
ultimate fave.
i was an atheist for a decade. after a long time of belligerence, i come to realize that without religion, you have nothing. anything goes. you make up morality along the way. there is no structure in society, i.e. the gay marriage thing now. religion is a necessary requirement for society to flourish. i am not talking about the bible or koran or torah or bhagvad gita or religious books. i am talking about the institution. the same ones mayans had, africans have now, and so on. you need them however vile they are.
Why don’t you theists and religious believers go out and offer prayers or sacrifices or cry before your supposed gods or do something else like that? This place is for thinking people whn do not hesitate to think with their own minds, not for those who have been spoonfed religious crap since their childhood and still cry over it!! I myself have made a atheistic quote: “God is similar to an unicorn…the only difference is that unicorns are thought to be real by little girls!”
You blithering moron, critically think much? You don’t know Argument by Ridicule (and just inane it is) when you use it? Why don’t you go embrace your own thoughts and beliefs, and let others do the same. Every time I see a theist or an atheist trying to ram their beliefs down other people’s throats, or obnoxiously display their self-congratulatory sense of pseudo-superiority, I want to grab them by their goofy, crooked spines and launch them about ten thousand miles away – just to get them far away from people who just go about their lives, minding their own business – and beliefs.
100000000000000000 internetz for you!
Tell me, Stephen. How many atheists have you actually seen trying to force their “beliefs” onto anyone else? I’m guessing not many. For most of us, the existence or nonexistence of a god or gods simply isn’t an issue until theists start trying to force *their* beliefs where they don’t belong – into our schools, our government and our bedrooms. If someone asks why we don’t believe, we’ll tell them (although there really isn’t much to tell), but we won’t force it on anyone.
Unlike theists, for many of whom belief in a god is central to their daily lives, atheists don’t build our lives around our *lack* of belief. Atheism is not, as you imply, a belief system or a matter of faith. It’s merely the rejection of an unsupported claim, the null hypothesis, if you will. Most atheists don’t claim to know and don’t state as fact that no gods exist. We simply see no logical reason to believe that any do. That’s all there is to it. How the hell does one turn “I don’t believe you” into a belief system?
Loved it
I FIND IT HILARIOUS THIS PERSON PICKED 100% OF THESE QUOTES ATHEIST RELATED BY A ATHEIST LIKE THEY DONT TALK ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE. ***** ONES AT THAT.
Atheist’s are stupid. I can’t believe that you people believe that there
Is no god.If there is no god then where did the earth come from.It did not just appear here somebody had to form it.And we were not always here on this earth some body was here before anybody was ever put on this earth.the only one that could was here living and still living is the one and only true god.so I say That you guys are stupid because you people think that there is no god.and also you people think that there is no god ,but he formed you your parents just gave birth to you.although you can not see him, he sees you and is watching over you and waiting for you to notice that he is there and is real.if you don’t believe me or believe in him you will die and on judgement day spend the rest of you life in torment and fire with the devil.god is real and there is a true god that yet and still lives today.he sent his son to die for us to take away the sis of the world but you people choose to still sin.I’m only trying to help you guys.there is a god and he is still living even though you don’t see him.you don’t need to see him you need to have faith and believe.thank you for reading this.I hope it makes you think twice about that there is no god.this is also coming from a child I hope you find it on your heart to accept what I am telling you I am only trying to help you so you don’t spend your life in hell.I just may never meet you in person so I hope that every one who read this believed it and I hope to see you in heaven someday.
If I’m so stupid for being an atheïst than why do I know how to use interpunction and you do not?
Your god tells you not to judge. Yet few actually follow the teachings. But it’s nothing new that a lot of religious people are hypocrites. Have fun sticking your head in the sand for the rest of your life.
I shall be free.
why do atheist hate christianity the most ? i mean , its not the only religion . but why ? all of the times your only attacking christianity .. what the eff ?
Because other than Islam, which isn’t big enough to be much of an annoyance in the West, Christianity is the only major religion whose followers insist on trying to force it onto everyone else.
Pathetic.
Hey mates who are of this website. please delete all these quotes for all these are full of *****. you better post something else.
Hi buddies. these statements are full of *****
‘The whole thing is so patently infantile, so foreign to reality, that to anyone with a friendly attitude to humanity it is painful to think that the great majority of mortals will never be able to rise above this view of life. ‘— Sigmund Freud
Wow, talk about being a whining *****. Well mister Freud, since you and your atheistic friends influenced western society so much, founded the base of our morality, have been declared by all world leaders as being totally infallible, and proved beyond a doubt that everyone who believes in religion is a sick, bastard retard, would you please bring us into world peace and make us united with science? Ah! Freedom. *****ual Freedom!
Yeah right, seriously, painful to humanity? I don’t think that even the majority of atheists are bad people at all but if you ignore the good influence religion left on the world then you’re being stupid and infantile because you refuse to acknowledge the truth. So what if the great majority of humans believe in a deity? Its not like being atheist gives you a bigger brain and its not belief makes you dumber. Ask Saint Thomas Aquinas that and all the doctors of the Church and contrary to popular belief, we don’t advocate blind faith and never did. If you want to become Catholic, study the fiath and then become one. We don’t make you pass through months of RCIA just to ***** you off you know.
People want freedom of rleigion, not freedom of religion. Scholars may study your work Freud, even though today it is very outdated, but culturally your invisible. What has your atheism changed for the better Mr Freud? What has it changed?
The sad thing is even proof, logic and wit cannot combat people believing in these fairy tales and corrupting their kids minds.
BVM,
How does religion corrupt kid’s minds? We don’t brainwash our children like how the Westboro baptist idiots do their own kids, we teach them religion because we think its important and because it gives us and them good morality. Upbringing brings up the man, and you’ll be hard pressed to find a devout catholic either in this century, in the century before, and the one before it or ever who believed that slaves were animals and that all protestants should be killed. We may not believe they’re going to heaven but we certianly never wanted to send them to hell. Secondly, proof? Wit? Logic? Do you think the saints can’t be as witty as total morons like Fry and Hitchens? They certainly didn’t offer proof why God doesn’t exist and they certainly didn’t give an ounce of logic which wasn’t refuted by a saint. They say they don’t want religion, we say that without the Catholic religion, we would have little moral compass and the freedom of the people would be treated as nothing but a piece of paper.
I dont believe in god. what ever happening is just because of the actions we do.if you strongly believe in this aspect – then you are the king……………..
Haha, this list made me laugh. To the Faith-Fanatics taking this seriously and over *****yzing it…chill out, enjoy your life, be happy, you only have one limited life, you might as well enjoy it!
I believe “Lighthouses are more helpful then churches” (Benjamin Franklin) should be “Lighthouses are more helpful THAN churches”.
If you are going to post quotes by famous atheiasts-why not find out if they were atheists?
Notable Unitarians include Béla Bartók the 20th century composer, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Theodore Parker in theology and ministry, Joseph Priestley and Linus Pauling in science, George Boole in mathematics, Susan B. Anthony, John Locke in civil government, and Florence Nightingale in humanitarianism and social justice, Charles Dickens, John Bowring and Samuel Taylor Coleridge in literature, Frank Lloyd Wright in arts, Josiah Wedgwood in industry, Thomas Starr King in ministry and politics, and Charles William Eliot in education.
or as that famous atheiast Ben Franklin said,
“I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth – that God governs in the affairs of men>”
Another quote from that great athiest Frank Lloyd Wright,
Wallace: “I’d like to chart your attitudes specifically . . . first of all, organized religion.”
Wright: “Why organize it? Christianity doesn’t need organizing according to the Master of it, the great master poet of all time didn’t want it organized, did he? Didn’t Jesus say that wherever a few are gathered in my name, there is my Church? I’ve always considered myself deeply religious.”
Isn’t it almost poetic justice that someone who takes such great pleasure in dissing God is subject to a cancer that attacks his voice? I certainly do not take pleasure or feel any gratification that Christopher Hitchens has been dealt his hand because I am not an Atheist who would celebrate the demise of an enemy. In fact, given the opportunity, I would trade places today with Mr. Hitchens because my faith in a future “world of idiotic bliss” is assured while his is not and perhaps it would give him a little more time to think seriously about his short future. But then he has been given a little more time – and he adamantly refuses to change course. Good luck Mr. Hitchens – because that is ultimately all you believe in.
I’ve got a couple of quotes
Religion is the opium of the people. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is required for their real happiness. The demand to give up the illusion about its condition is the demand to give up a condition which needs illusions.
-Karl Marx
Gods are fragile things they can easily be destroyed by science and common sense
-not sure who said it.
You idiots the bible actually proved with accurate measurements, that the world was round and not flat unlike your so called intelligent scientists of the past who believed it was flat. Ferdinand Magellan you dumb ass it doesn’t take a genius to figure that the world is round. It was proven before you were born. And this is something for all you so called “intellect and intelligent atheists”. WHO MADE THE BIG BANG, BANG. The question that everyone one is afraid of. This question always gets the most stupid responses, e.g nothing that created something in other words. Ok idiots the world is way too complicated to just happen by chance. i never heard of an explosion thats pretty. The wise one here would understand that their has to be a brian thats capable to construct a masterpiece like this universe. IDIOTS THINK!!!!!!!!!
Belief isn’t bad…But bad shouldn’t be a Belief…
What i mean is that…Huh…Belief in the path of Belief gives you a relief ….Some thing missing i’m a thiest not an athiest…
It has been said ”If God did not exist, it would be nessary for the mind of man to have invented one.” I think that’s exactly what happened.
The final and infinite answer is no one created the infinity, infinity means endless our life is one and limited if we are immortal we can see the universe infinitely and we can study with our infinite vision after our life also infinite conversion will be continued infinitely, so there is no questions of creation and destruction
We are each free to believe what we want there is no god no one created the universe and no one directs our fate this leads me to profound realization there is no heaven and no afterlife either we have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe and for that I am extremely grateful
Single thing(reason) can not take part in Randomization Because it contain Infinite Conditional things as I said even if there is any controller it can not work infinitely that controller is not a final solution for any single reaction in Infinite Universe
There is no question as well as answer of a god. The Reality is Infinity even if there is a vision it is a temporary in the absence of vision also Infinity is there. Those formulas made by human are also temporary because Physics, Chemistry and Biology changes Universally. It is Infinite Conversion human life is a micro part of this Conversion this is Infinite Reaction no one is creator nor destroyer nor controller. Finally this is Infinite Universal Reaction
Infinity is the greatest evidence of Infinite Universe
Christopher Hitchins was not lost in the admiration of his own brilliance, nor blinded by the light of his own self illumination as Mr. Mansfield would have us think. He was simply a very intelligent and educated man.
Yes, Christopher and most other brilliant people are usually Atheist. It just comes with territory and isn’t really a choice. When one seriously *****yzes the nature of conciseness, life, the universe and everything, God just doesn’t seam to fit anywhere, anymore.
You are wrong Sir. Only a fool would say there is a God in his heart.
I’m an Atheist and I’m proud of Chris Hitchiens. The fact he died believing the way he lived, just like Carl Sagan is in my way of thinking a very honorable way to go.
No, the world has lost a brilliant man, but Christopher Hitchins never had a chance at eternity. Nor do any of us. As for Peter Hitchens, Christopher’s brother? I can only say this of him. ” I wish so much he could have understood that fact as well as his brother.”
My answer to sarcastic letter to ed in local newspaper
This quote: “Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful” was originally said by the philosopher Seneca, not Edward Gibbon
s al the quotes r true
Seriously, I think religions of all kinds are stupid and infantile because they too refuse to acknowledge the truth. They all depend on faith and that’s is all you have left when you don’t want to see the truth.
Dick
Being religious is more painful than death, i want to face death bt don’t want to see suffrings of my family. Bhoutik
A friend told me that an atheist is a person with the arrogance of confidence. Perhaps that is why so many intellectuals and very intelligent people shun a belief in a Higher Power. However, did they ever wonder where their intelligence came from. All our human gifts are not manmade. They come from somewhere. The beauty of the universe is not manmade either, since there are worlds which we are first now beginning to discover. I often wonder why they are so angry at people who believe in God.
Probably because so many people who believe in God insist on trying to force that belief onto everyone else.
Such audacity to say that the list of quotes of famous atheists is nothing but a deragatory polemics? You must be a fanatic who likes to read atheists quotes and gets a gigle out of it. Polemics defines as the branch of theology dealing with the history. Here you are commenting on atheist quotes hoping to get a good debate from someone
wow number 15 is awesome! haha
All of the brilliant essays that have been written on the subject of atheism – a few of them by some of the people represented on this list – and the best you could come up with is a few one-liners?
Do I detect an anti-atheist bias here?
Me too. Common sense is always better then dogma.
“If there were no God, there would be no atheists.”
― G.K. Chesterton
As a non-believer I don’t believe in believers. They must be just be confused normal people. They would have to be. There’s too many of them to really be mentally defective.
Imagine there’s no heaven. It’s easy if you try. No Hell below us, above us only sky… John Lennon
Whats up very nice blog!! Man .. Excellent .. Amazing .. I’ll bookmark your web site and take the feeds additionally?I am satisfied to find a lot of useful information here within the post, we’d like work out more strategies in this regard, thank you for sharing. . . . . .
