What about Eugene O'Neill? He won a Pulitzer Prize for "Long Day's Journey Into Night," which was a play about his entire family's problems with drugs and alcohol.

Yeah, definitely some of my favorite authors here, although I have never read any Raymond Chandler. I do, however have the complete O. Henry and a Fitzgerald collection beside my bed at this very moment.

My God. Some of the most talented people that I know and admire are in this list. These are true writers. About Bukowski: Yes he was ugly (?) , he was a drunk, a bump but he had STYLE. A woman told him once that she was impressed by him because he looked like he would “penetrate the wall”. (Look at him at YouTube. Look at his face. And listen the song ‘I wish to weep” (dadafon) from his poetry.) He is not more talented than Hemingway, let’s say, but he is the most drunk-talented. Didn’t know that Joyce drunk. That explain Ulysses. (ha).
Faulkner, Williams, Joyce, Poe. Giants. I guess it’s true that talent walks along with a curse. But you forgot Jack London.

There are a shitload of composers, too, Beethoven included. Academia, which is in charge of the arts now, and pulling all the artistry out of it, has declared war on artists self-destructive tendencies. The new artisit has a PhD, wins numerous bullshit awards, and has the sterile personality of an accountant, with the talent to match.

In regards to the league of talent listed- Henry Miller loved to drink to.
