@ NattyLite. It is a beautiful song, but what makes it even more beautiful is the video with Super Model Paulina Porizkova !! And did you know that she's married to the leader of The Cars Ric Ocasek ? He's pretty ugly if you ask me. By the way, the singer for that song, Ben Orr, who was also the bass guitar player for The Cars died tragically of Pancreatic Cancer in the early 1990's. He was only 53 years old.

Great list and I love all the songs on there. I am about I guess 5 years older than you as I was just getting out of college in 85. I worked as dj for a small college radio station and this was the music we played. I understand what you mean for sure about your number four pick The Ghost In You by the Furs as I felt the same way the first time I heard it. I love lists and this is good one. Thanks.

Big thanks for this list, it makes me think and feel a lot. Even when I lived the core of my youth on the 80's, I'm not a fan of the popular music of the period, actually it makes me feel a little sad and old. The strange think is that I really love the music from 70's and also the Beatles. I grew up in Venezuela, but we used to have lots of English music in the radio, I remember many of this groups, but for some reason, some of them playing different songs (The Cure, Tears For Fears (was huge here), Modern English), I think in that time we got different singles, from the next album after the big break in America. True, Don't Dream It's Over and Time After Time were huge hits here, repeated and repeated on the radio, I'm still sick of them. But what I appreciate the most in this list are this three I can't remember at all: Here’s Where the Story Ends, Inside Out and Ghost In You. WOW soooo beautiful. Maybe their arrangement are less 80 aggressive (that tin plate drums and extra sweet synths) and that make the timeless. I don't know. But also the melodies and structure are amazing. Many say today's music is garbage, but they mostly talking about music on the radio nowadays. But you can find melodic and well written pop music in other places, in independent labels, or by instance in Noisetrade.com. Give it a try.

In the sharp gust of love
My memory stirred
When time wreathed a rose
A garland of shame
Its thorn my only delight
War torn, afraid to speak
We dare to breathe
Majestic
Imperial
A bridge of sighs
Solitude sails
In a wave of forgiveness
On angels' wings

Reach out your hands
Don't turn your back
Don't walk away
How in the world
Can I wish for this?
Never to be torn apart
Close to you
'Til the last beat
Of my heart

From Siouxsie and the Banshees'
The Last Beat of My Heart
