I liked lord of the flies... Dont hate me and just listen. I see degrading society signs all over the world right now, and I must say that many of the symbolized events in the book are happening now. Intelligence and mysticism (piggy and Simon) are dying out, because many people have stopped taking school seriously and don't care about church, for pleasure and violence (jack). Society and it's laws (Ralph) are starting to be blotted out because people have stopped caring, with the entitlement mentality and a low work ethic. Mostly in America though.

I have to admit while I loved jfrater's list he did on his birthday or whatever, these comments are proving to be a sore disappointment. I sadly am a big loser and just found this listverse site last week and haven't left it.

I notice it's mainly men commenting on here so perhaps my female perspective will shed new light.
I'm going to go with ANYTHING by Nicolas Sparks! Just kidding friends, just kidding.

What about Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs? Choke by Chuck Palahniuk?

I wanted to say The Millennium Series by Stieg Larsson but I only loved the first one to be quite honest.

So as my favorite book, in my almighty newby opinion, I will have to choose a book I read as a young teen. It confused me, opened my eyes, heightened my senses, and opened me to a new world of novels that I hadn't yet experienced. White Oleander by Janet Fitch.

Some hero. He 'died', but got brought back to life and made a king, or in other words, he didn't actually sacrifice anything. Now he just sits there watching millions die everyday on earth with indifference. Wow, what a hero.

I read two books recently that i thought were great: the Stranger/the Outsider by Albert Camus and Lolita by Vladimir Naboko. I think they gave very intresting insights into people who are thought generally to be "evil" or strange. ( A murderer and a hebephile respectivly). I am also saddened to realise that i haven't read most of the books other people are suggesting, I should start expanding my reading. Also the manga series Death Note has an incredibly detailed and conplex plot and is very well writen, while dealing with some heavey morality issues.
