Excluding the Bible because anything inspired by the Almighty is gonna own...

War and Peace - amazing
Ender's Game - I read this once every couple years and while most people find it juvenile it is just a great read
1984
Catch 22 - pretty good, not great imho but it had some of the funniest scenes in modern literature
Don Quixote - even with the translation so vivid and beautiful
Pillars of the Earth - an epic full of ups and downs with an ending for optimists

Worst book I ever finished - Twilight. seriously

Thanks for the great site!!

@jessebe (<a href='#comment-258507' rel="nofollow">316</a>): OOh I agree with Libba Bray's trilogy! Great set of books. I Think regardless of our capacity (or rather incapacity) to understand the Words of God in the Bible, Nevertheless, it's still an amazing "book". That's like saying "Lord of the Rings" was tedious and difficult to comprehend so therefore it is not a good book...Is that fair? I dunno. Just my thoughts, i guess. :)

The Sweet Far Thing by Libba Bray. To me it's the best book written.

Those that say the bible have no imagination. It's not well written at all. It takes a lot of intellectual capacity to understand what it's saying, let alone analyse that.

Many classics...I even love the overrated ones, Animal Farm, Jane Eyre, Lord of the Rings (definitely very well written), Wuthering Heights, Tuck Everlasting ( i know, i know!) Agathat Chirstie's "And then there was none", Pride and Prejudice (what can you say? a romantic at heart..) and practically anything from Shakespeare =) Bible's obviously a very noteworthy one...

I fell in love with Martin Amis's Time's Arrow.

I think he does an incredible job describing how ass-backwards the holocaus was in a way that I've never even thought of. Beautiful.

That or Of Mice and Men. Both beautiful

Wo, I feel so dumb lol! Here are a few of my favourites
To Kill a Mocking Bird
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Of Mice and Men

I'm a sucker for faction books such as Da Vinci Code etc. I'm sad to say that i LOVE Sidney Sheldon and Jeffrey Archer. At the moment i am trying very very very HARD to read Foucault's Pendulum by Eco, and I'm finding it very difficult :( I will however keep trying!

@ 133:

Glad Tomorrow, When The War Began series got a mention. Of course not the "best book ever written", but it will always be my favourite teenage series. Absolutely fantastic.

Add another vote for Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut

And Rum Diaries by Hunter S. Thompson is right up there!

But, the book that is the reason I read any books ever, is The Professor and a Madman by Simon Winchester. Amazing story and well written! I loved it!
