James Bond movies are extremely popular and have been since the very beginning. They are full of intrigue, sex, gadgets, and money – what more could you want in a film?! For todays “your view” I want to know what your favorite Bond movie is of all time. You can include films from the main franchise or any of the extra films that are not considered part of it by the true aficionados.
When answering this question, be sure to give us your reasons for your answer – it gives us a chance to debate!

What is the best James Bond film ever made and why?
My view on this question is easily the new Casino Royale. The reason is that we see a much more humanistic Bond – he is also more rutheless which I believe is more fitting to the style of films and his character. Now, tell me what you think!

SocialCocoon spelt my naim rite. I better mark this on the calendar.
Didn’t some white guy make a rap song about this?
Would the real slickwilly please stand up, please stand up
Be nice ham sandwich!! I am trying…
I do like the bit from The Island, great movie btw…
That’s MISTER ham sandwich to you!
I know mom424, great idea! Im standing up though.
Oy….ok….ha ha, “SlickWilly” you’ve made your point. Time to to grow up and pick your own screenname now.
Jeez, let’s talk about Bond
Okay, ill switch.
Dude thats weird, who really was the real SlickWilly? LOL!
Now Im Csimmons! MWAHAHA!
They call me MISTER HAM SANDWICH!!
Haha, couldn’t resist. Hmmm Bond you say… well I liked the girl fron the new movie, Vesper Lynd. I was very impressed with how she was good and bad… yet not really bad really blurs the lines.
Geez. We’ve got a regular doppleganger on our hands.
Hey!, actually Slick, i was the fake Slick, i came home and your username and email were on my PC, i had to screw with you. SORRY!
And im the, well fake Csimmons.
I guess that glitch you were talking about was true!
Casino Royale–by far. My father and I used to watch every Bond movie together–male bonding at its most perfect. I remember fixating on the gadgets and when Casion Royale came out it seemed to re-invent the Bond character. Gritty, almost bumbling Bond is adept at getting out of sticky situations but without the glum, self-satisfied, superior attitude that seemed to infect previous Bonds.
like buc said, back to bond…
i truly am shocked that anyone would say brosnan or moore was the best bond. it was obviously connery. now craig is giving him a run for his money. how can you like what bond had become before CR? high schoolish *****ual innuendos, refried tired jokes, rediculous gadgets…these tools are trying to tell us about one of the supposed coolest, *****iest, baddasses of all time?
casino royale, then connery ones, then all others.
Personally, I feel Connery was absolutely the best James Bond, followed closely by Timothy Dalton. Dalton was a bit flat-affected and had little personality, but that is why made his version of Bond so convincing. “A View To a Kill” is also the only R-rated Bond movie, I seem to recall. He was a bit more graphic and ruthless than Moore, though not quite as suave as Connery, which is why Connery rocks: he’s got that cold-blooded ruthlessness *and* the smooth, suave attitude to back it up. With virtually no gadgets (at least, in the first 2 films – w/ the exception of his PPK in Dr. No and the trick briefcase in From Russia with love.)
Casino Royale. He’s *****y, ass kicking, and vulnerable. Gotta love it. The story was also the best, though I wait with much anticipation for the next installment.
As for Die Another Day… seriously guys? seriously? that movie was TERRIBLE. Now I love the Peirce Brosnan Bond, but let’s go with The World Is Not Enough or Tomorrow Never Dies. Either, I don’t care, just not Die Another Day.
Goldfinger was great, but I find it kind of dated. Growing up with Peirce Brosnan Bond made it hard to adjust to the non-action hero Bond. It was more about being suave and talking a lot back then. Now I want some excellent explosions mixed in with my excellent story line
“Man with the golden gun” No questions. It has one of the greatest stunts in movie history (the 360 barrell role over the river) that was intense. Not to mention the birth of the legendary golden gun
Nelia: It’s understandable. Most of the pre-Brosnan bond movie came from an era where people didn’t need huge explosions and CGI effects to be entertained. They were more of a thinking man’s movies, compared to the Brosnan schlock.
Best Bond Overall – Goldfinger
Most overrated Bond – On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (kinda boring if you ask me and Lazenby is AWFUL)
Most underrated Bond – Diamonds Are Forever (I thought it was very exciting)
Best Roger Moore Bond – Live and Let Die
Best Pierce Bond – Goldeneye
Worst Bond – A View to a Kill (Roger was a little too old); also Never Say Never Again (WHAT WERE THEY THINKING???)
The List:
1. Goldfinger
2. Live and Let Die
3. Thunderball
4. Casino Royale
5. You Only Live Twice
6. The Man With the Golden Gun
7. The Spy Who Loved Me
8. Goldeneye
9. Diamonds Are Forever
10. Dr. No
11. For Your Eyes Only
12. Tomorrow Never Dies
13. Die Another Day
14. The Living Daylights
15. Moonraker
16. Octopussy
17. The World is Not Enough
18. License to Kill
19. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
20. A View to a Kill
Dr. No it is classic Bond it dosn’t get any better than Ursala Andress as Honey Ryder and sean Sean Connery will always be James Bond for me. In addition it’s the introduction of SPECTRE and sets up the long story arc over the next couple of films.
I love that the new Bond films are not using alot of gadgets etc… I personally found the chase scene at the beginning of Casin Royale to be absolutely amazing, and I don’t think there was alot of CGI (if any) in that movie.
Goldeneye was my favorite, but this could be influenced by how kick ass the game was.
JMurf: I’ll readily admit that Goldeneye was hands-down the best game released for the N64 platform. I lost years of my life to that game.
I haven’t seen all of them, but I agree with the nearly unanimous consensus that Goldeneye, Goldfinger and Casino Royale were the best. I also liked Moonraker for its campiness, and Die Another Day in a so-bad-it’s-good way.
Casino Royale was great because it brought Bond back to reality and away from all the stupid gadgets and scifi it was getting into. It is up there along with Golden-eye.
I have absolutely nothing to say on this matter. I have never seen a James Bond movie in my life. Please go easy on me.
WHAT! Are you a communist or something?
I can’t believe so many people are saying Casino Royale. Yes it was good, in fact, it is the only Bond movie I own. But come on! Dr. No is by far the best. It has:
1. The best Bond Actor (Sean Connery)
2. One of the most memorable Bond females (Ursula Andress)
3. Cool gadgets and a great car chase
4. It was the first!
best bond film: Diamonds are Forever (diamond smuggling in Las Vegas is way more plausible than robbing Fort Knox with a pesticide spray. plus Connery, Jill St. John, and fake moon-landings!)
favorite bond film: Die Another Day (I love the homage to the other 20 films, plus the sword fight in the club was awesome!)
favorite bond: Dalton. he just seemed more like a professional hitman/spy than the others. too bad the plots were iffy
(connery:unsophisticated brute, brosnan:playboy pansy with gadgets; craig:love struck rookie; moore:too glib,too old)
also fond of: Live and Let Die, For Your Eyes Only, Casino Royale, Man with Golden Gun
I really enjoyed Casino Royale. But my personal fave is A View to a Kill. Roger Moore at his best, Christopher Walken as the villian, and Grace Jones is badass!
I’d say Casino Royale and Goldeneye. Although Die another day was also pretty cool.
Slick – Ah, well I’m sorry my explosion generation is more into Brosnan than watching one of the older models be creepily misogynistic
Or maybe that is just my gut reaction to Sean Connery on general. *****y? yes. wife beater? also yes. I find that an actors personal life can strongly effect my feelings about the characters they play. Same reason I can’t stand Tom Cruise movies. Lifelong aversion to the actor… His descent into being totally crazypants just affirmed my opinion there.
I guess what it comes down to is this – I don’t really love the Bond movies. I’ve seen almost all of them, but the character never really appealed to me until Casino Royale. Too slutty. I didn’t particularly like Brosnan’s Bond either, but his movies were at least entertaining on a “pure mindless action” level. I am capable of liking movies sans explosions, but I prefer combining an excellent film with some action, they don’t preclude each other
P.S. Never seen either of the Timothy Dalton ones for some reason, though I’ve seen tons of Bond films. Love him in other stuff though, so my dislike of other Bonds may not extend to him.
Um… too many to think about… Casino Royale?
Casion Rayale, Octopussy, and Goldfinger. just liked them. Does anyone else think Bond should have and STD by now? I mean, that’s a lot of ***** to be had…
-Andrea Carlena Beauman
I loved Casino Royale. I like the badasses who don’t need the gimmicks. I’ve seen most of the Bond movies, thanks to my hubby, Casino Royale was the first one I loved. I like most of the Connery ones, but I didn’t love them. I think I just like all of the crazy stunts and one-liners. The Die-Hard movies are my absolute favorites. John McClain is *****ier than most of the Bonds. Except Daniel Craig. Damn.
The archetype Bond Films:
–Goldfinger
–From Russia with Love
Guilty Pleasures:
–Live and Let Die (loved the Un-Cola guy)
–The Spy Who Loved Me/Moonraker (because of “Jaws”)
Daniel Craig doesn’t even register on my radar.
GoldenEye and The Man with the Golden Gun.
Don’t be so prejudiced, Randall. There are dumb people in all age groups whose favorite movie is always the one they saw most recently. I don’t consider myself a kid anymore but I often get lumped into this category anyway and it really irks me when an older person sees a couple of stupid kids and uses it to form a general opinion of all youths. It’s less an issue of age, and more an epidemic of American idiocy, I think. Sorry to preach, but after being recently disrespected by an older person who used the same “Kids these days!” remark that you made, I’ve taken it upon myself to battle in the name of intelligent youth.
And for the record, Goldfinger is the best bond film, and Sean Connery is the best Bond.
Dr. No was the *****.
“From Russia With Love” and “Dr. NO” are freaking sweet.
Growing up I used to watch “Bond Week, 7 Days of 007″ on TBS every year. I found a promo for it on youtube:
Does anyone know if they still show this on TBS? It would be in March, I think, if they did.
“Do you expect me to talk?”
“No,I expect you to die!”
I’ve seen a lot of them, even the older ones and I have to say that Casino Royale was probably my favorite. The Bond films in general are great but this one was a real breath of fresh air. I can’t wait to see Quantum of Solace, it’s Casino Royale is any indication of the quality we can expect of course. Just the name of it is awesome.
Aaron: that really sums up Casino Royale: it was a breath of fresh air! I couldn’t agree more.
Personaly, and I think it’s just my crush on a 22 year-old Jane Seymour, but: Live and Let Die is my favorite one to sit down and watch.
Addressing Casino Royale.
I own every single Bond on DVD. I absolutely love the Bond films. I agree that Casino Royale was a very good Bond movie (my favorite scene is at the beginning, when he turns and shoots the guy in the bathroom, and after he shoots, the famous gun-barrel portrait comes around him. Amazing.) Craig was really good for this role, very early James Bond. I am still waiting to see how he portrays the James Bond that we all know and love. Smooth, gets women, drops one-liners, takes his martinis shaken-not-stirred. Let’s face it, if you don’t appreciate movies that are driven by plot instead of action. And you don’t enjoy suspending reality for a bit, then James Bond is just not for you.
That being said:
I think the best Bond movie overall is From Russia With Love. Goldfinger and Diamonds are Forever are just brilliant too.
I think Pierce Brosnan is getting a bad rap. He was a great Bond. I would say the writing for his movies are what made people start to dislike him. GoldenEye is a Top 5 Bond.
1. From Russia With Love
2. GoldenEye
3. Diamonds are Forever
4. Goldfinger
5. Casino Royale
They are all masterpieces in my mind,i choose no to have a favorite
(Sean connery is the best bond though, hands down)
Dr. No easily
ringtailroxy: I would love to but wouldn’t it be better to wait for the actual movie to come out?
Borg: they usually do that (in March) to offset the NCAA Mens Basketball Tournament playing on the other channels.
Casino Royale: I’m sorry but it’s the most realistic bond movie.
(I haven’t seen them all) The action is consistent, never a dull spot. All around great movie.
well i can tell you this… Moonraker is not one of the best ones. I don’t think i needed to say that but still.
i agree with Casino Royale.
I’ve seen most of the Bond movies, but never enjoyed them too much until Casino Royale. This movie seemed much more realistic than most of the others, and in my eyes, Daniel Craig is much more believable than any of his predecessors.
i’m gonna say from russia with love, gold finger, and the man with the golden gun. i’m a big fan of the older bonds, especially with connery. the new bonds just don’t do anything for me. however, i am interested to see the new one when it comes out
Roger Moore was by far the best Bond. As for the best bond movie “Live and Let Die”!!!
I dont remember the titles with the films, except I could reasonably guess that “The Man with The Golden Gun”-or was it “Golden FingerEye”? Anyway, the one with the naked chick painted gold. Was that the same one where Connery was sleeping after impersonating a chinese guy to bag the gold chick and a ninja crawled on the ceiling with a blowgun? or was it a tarantula under the pillow? Honestly, thats what I remember.
That was a good one.
Oh, and what was the one with that dude that threw his hat with such force it decapitated roman/greek marble statues? (is that right?)
I liked that guy.and his son Shortround…and that dude JAWS (Andre look-a-like) with the metal dentures! Wasn’t that in Moonraker? Was that the same guy in Superman 2? ..still up in space.
and Q from star trek with all the gadgets?
Wait, remember that one with the muppets!
Isn’t there an albino climbing up a ladder shooting a cross bow…or being shot at with a cross bow? Isn’t there a top 10 James Bond Villian list?
I havent seen the latest.but thought the comercial with the car flipping over a whole bunch of times looked cool. and The dark brooding- a life of this-brain.
And wasn’t Casino Royale already made before? Wasn’t there a film by the same title with Stalone?
All kidding aside.
nice list.
I wish i could recall one Bond movie in full. …that aside-i thought Pierce Brosnan and Timothy Dalton were just temporary filler.
“Quantum Of Solace”? What kinda Bond Title is that? Flemming was ahead of his time!
p.s.
Megatron! Megatron!#82 Awesome.
Tell me that you didn’t just throw some cards together with the titles written on them and shuffle and pick what titles you picked? because if you didnt then
I think I will buy them all and watch them all in that order.
Man With The Golden Gun by far is the best bond ever. I do agree with everyone who says Casino Royale that was an amazing movie, and I also have to pick Die Another Day I just fell in love with that movie
