What was the short story that bradbury wrote where people lived on venus and the sun only came out every 5 or so years? I remember the plot, but the title eludes me.

What is going on? Nobody in this site is able to keep a serious discussion about science fiction LITERATURE? Looks to me as if nobody knew really what to say about it. Is it what I am fearing though? That the ignorance about LITERATURE is, reaching science fiction proportions too? I invite everyone who is reading ( presume you can read, may be I am wrong?) this message, to READ. Not much to ask though.

The most influential sci fi author ever is probably John W. Campbell, Jr. Partially as an author but mostly through the fact that he was the editor of Astounding/Analog for over 30 years

Someone said that P k Dick is a minor genius, I totally agree with it, there is very little literature left after K Dick fantasy, very original, but less talented.

That goes to Randall and Romerozombi. There goes my opinion: Is Lovecraft a science fiction writer? Yes, a hundred per cent. Did you try In the mountains of Madness?. About his influence in the science fiction, and not only in the horror, is out of question: people like Giger, Ridley Scott or Carpenter will give testimony of that. Thank you.

Why nobody hardly mention the massive figure of Stanislav Lem in that list and others? Is very sad that the polish genius that gave to the world masterpieces like Solaris, Fiasco, Ciberiad or Return from the stars is been so forgotten by the mainstream critics. The science fiction literature in other languages rather than english is sadly no remembered. Is quite shocking, as figures like Adolfo Bioy Casares or Jorge Luis Borges are giants in the fantastic literature of the spanic world and others. Why this? i would like to send this message to all the people that feel like me, to change a little bit this dictature of the northamerican and english polls. Thank you.

Ron Hubbard famously said,
"Writing Sci-fi for a penny a word is fine for paying the rent, but to make serious money you need to invent a religion".
Which he went on to do, and proved himself right, and boy, how those scientologists wish he never said that!

Making a top 10 list is like scoring a table in a bar and then phoning all your friends to come and join in.
First one table and then two and so on,
(assuming for this argument, you have an unlimited supply of best friends)
First you think almost randomly of all your very best friends, and it doesn't seem to matter who you phone first and in which order, then as the beer goes down, more 'best friends' pop into your mind, who cannot be left out.
Eventually at some point you have to stop as the group gets bigger and bigger and the other people in the bar can't find any seats.
This does not necessarily mean you don't have any friends left.

Well i didnt read trough the whole list of authors people wants on the list, BUT WHAT ABOUT H.P. LOVECRAFT.

Horror yes, fiction yes, and SCIFI of course.

Many of his novels and writings have influenced the modern scifi genre more than any of these writers above( they r gods among scifi thats true). AND PLZ DONT ADD L. RON. HUBBARD, that fraud, freak and liar should be banned from scifi for ever and ever.

I feel that Jules Verne should have taken the top spot, not only because he set the stage for Wells but coz his ideas were far beyond his time. He didn't have much real sci-fi groundwork to work off as others did.
