It's worth mentioning that *The Last of Sheila* was written by puzzle/scavenger hunt fans Anthony Perkins and Stephen Sondheim and won an Edgar Award.

And one reason *The Moon-Spinners* succeeds is because it's based on the book by Mary Stewart. She's not read much anymore, but she was more or less the Mary Higgins Clark of the sixties and seventies, writing romantic thrillers set in exotic locations (as well as a well-regarded Merlin series that begins with *The Crystal Cave*).

One movie that, imo, could be added to your list is *No Way to Treat a Lady,* based on the William Goldman novel. It has policeman Moe Brummel (George Segal) investigating a series of stranglings (by mother-fixated master-of-disguise Rod Steiger) and falling in love with potential victim Lee Remick along the way. It's tense, but also very witty -- an irrestible combination.

And there's *Charade,* too, but I think it's probably familiar to most.
