The red winsor cheese is really just cheddar cheese that isn't aged as long with red wine in it? And you've never seen it before? They have a cheap version of this in most supermarkets. I'm sure that the one in the list tastes better, but they look almost the same. They have a spreadable version too, though most people into cheese don't like those (I am not one of those people. If it tastes good, and they call it cheese, then it is a good cheese).

I worked in a cheese shop for a while. I've tried all on the list but Danablu and Red Windsor which tbh looks fucking crap anyway. If you want a coloured cheese get some gjetost - its brown!

others of note are: Stinking Bishop, Golden Cross, Cantal, roquefort, blue d'ambert, gorganzola.

My advice is eat any cheese you can get your hands on except American because they don't know what cheese is.

i tried stilton, camembert and emmentaler but nothing compares to feta cheese. but the only kind of feta that is good is only available in greece and makedonia. oh, and i'm from romania, and we , romanians, love cheese. the telemea and burduf cheese belong to us. the telemea is most comonly made out of sheep milk. it's texture is crumbly, and it has a very strong taste. also, it's white.

Ask everyone in the world to make their own top 10 list (sorted), and it is unlikely that any two people will come up with the same list. All the cheeses that you list here are rather basic, and I find half of them quite boring, but that is my personal opinion. Someone mentioned Vacherin Mont d'Or and I agree that it is one of the finest cheeses in the world. Another delicious cheese from the same area is Comté (I never liked it as a child, but I love it now; try it!). Someone said that Belgium had as many cheeses as France, around 300, but France has way over 600 types of cheese (Général de Gaulle, half a century ago, was already complaining that it was not possible to govern a country with over 500 types of cheese). Lastly, I tried the maggot cheese as a child, but I have no memory of it; I remember it as more of a curiosity, but then again, I was too young to remember or appreciate. I remember that maggots were indeed moving around in the cheese, and that you had to use a spoon to scoop the creamy parts, while pushing the maggots away, so that they would not end up in your plate or worse, in your mouth.

Here we have maggot cheese; you take a normal cheese piece put it out in some fly zone and wait for several weeks and come back, take cheese, toast/cook/heat cheese, serve cheese, eat cheese. (comes with stuffed maggots, only available in fly zones,) by Auldey

I'm afraid the best cheese is missing from this list.
It's also the older as described in Homer's Odyssey.
It's Greek Feta
As a Greek I never tasted one of these strange cheese,
but I'm pretty sure that every danish, french, british have taste at least once in his life our wonderful cheese.

125. jfrater
You are 99% correct, sir! The harder cheeses will generally have negligible amounts of lactose making them easier to digest. Most people with LI can still tolerate the minimal amounts of lactose found in cheese and in yogurts (which have active cultures to help digestion). The unfortunately severe LIs, like me, can show mild symptoms with something as small as medicinal tablets (stupid 'secret dairy'! My doctor was the one to tell me that some pills contain dairy by-products. It's not on the label!). I was avoiding the temptation of this list for a while but I love dairy even more now that it's sort of forbidden pleasures (the dairy pill sorta works, sorta doesn't), haha, but intolerance be damned! I am an equal opportunity foodist.

Hitting up a wine class tonight! I hope they have some of these cheeses there...yum!
