The information about The Zmaj is false. "Zmaj" means dragon in general in a lot of languages on the Balkans (Croatian, Serbian). So any Slavic (not just Slovenian) people has the zmaj.

I normally don't post comments, usually since I don't have anything isightful to say hehe, and this list is over a year old now, but I was so surprised to see no.3, my country's dragon, that I just had to write something :D Great list btw, I just recently discovered this site and I love it :)

As Trin explained, the word ''Zmaj'' is just a direct translation from the English word ''Dragon''. I can understand how it was compared with a snake though, since in other languages close to Slovenian, like Croatian or Serbian, ''Zmija'', which is very close to our word ''Zmaj'', means snake, however, we Slovenians have a totally different word for it, ''Kača'' (Ka-cha). It really is no problem though, just wanted to point it out if some of you were interested :) Dragons do play a big role in our capital city Ljubljana though. It's sort of a symbol of protection and we even have a bridge over a river flowing straight through Ljubljana, Ljubljanica, that has dragon statues on it an could roughly be translated as Draconic Bridge. I think there's a legend of a dragon passing away in that river, but i'm not sure about the details.

In the distance you can also see Ljubljana Castle which stands right in the middle of our capital, you migh sometimes find symbols of the castle with a dragon standing on top of it to represent Ljubljana. Heh, pretty mythical city I live in, but you never really notice or think about it when you actually live here hehe XD

Keep up the grat job with the site! :D

While informative this isn't actually a list of dragon types. Nagas are not considered dragons, they are half snake(normally cobra), half human and are considered holy by that connection. Níðhöggr by contrast is a dragon, but it is the name given to the Norse dragon who lives among the roots of Yggdrasil(the world tree) and constantly gnaws at them.

I'd also like to point out that it's the Korean Yong dragon that has three toes, where as the Japanese Ryu has four, and the Chinese Lung has five.

I'll admit however not knowing much about numbers 7,6,3 & 2, the rest I have either read extensively on or have at least heard of them.
