Mandarin isn't the most widely spoken language, just the most frequent. Widely-spoken implies that it's spoken in many places - which it isn't, it's mostly all in China.

a really nice job
i didnt have the time to go through all the comments
but i would like to mention that in bengali to say hello you have to say "kya-mon achhen?"
which means how are you when translated
"ei je" means "hey, you"
and is used to call someone and definitely not to great someone

ok i read the comments to 60ish (im broed and interested in languages) and well i never knew you could learn Australian English, though that may be because i am australian, plus i didnt know that there were 7000 words for beer. i know there are different types but not words.
i'm learning spanish and i personally find it very difficult, i think that difficult depends on the person, not on the language. i also know a little czech.
also i find that english has a stupid amount of word rules and exception and watever (i before e except after c for 1).
another 'language' that has emerge is txt language. for example:
i like so h8 it wen im l8 4 prties and wen i do get there they're like OMG WTF nd im like soooo mbrsd... well ttyl.
now that didt have too much txt talk. i recent got a magazine and it had a 'text dictionary' with the text-vocab and the translation.
also the tennager saying yeah and like all the time: it like so yeah.

Mandarin is not spoken in just one country. I can say with 100 percent certainty, that Mandarin is spoken in every country. Name one country that don't have a Chinese restaurant. :)

In addition, Mandarin is spoken to a large extent in Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore. Chinese is probably the 3rd most spoken language the the US.

You can't actually be real about this. Portugal got it's independence from Spain?????? hahahahah that is just fantastic... where do you get this??
Spain only became Spain almost 3 centuries (!) after Portugal achieved its sovereignty as a State. Before that only small kingdoms existed.
And Portuguese now has almost 290 million speakers worldwide, making it number 5th on the list: Just check this http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=world+languages

Cheers
