All of this books are great and I was read most of them (Iliad, Odyssey, Aeneid, Divine commedia, paradise lost). But you forget to mention about the 'Shahname', Iranian great epic that written by Ferdowsi. If we have not prejudice, I think that it is the most important epic book of the word. please read this book and then say your thought about it. thxment here.

Anyone who has taken the time to translate the Aeneid from Latin would have rated it significantly higher on the list.

It is by far one of the most masterfully crafted pieces of literature in history. The fact that dactylic hexameter is most often measured foot by foot from the end of each line to the beginning means Vergil may have written each line backwards. In addition, Latin meter goes by long/short vowels, not by how much stress you put on each syllable. This means that he had to be extra careful in choosing the words based on the length of each vowel (indicated by macrons in modern texts). Finally, and most impressively, there are hundreds of allusions, intertextual references, and literary/rhetorical devices (chiasmus, zeugma, synedoche, metonymy, etc.) that don't come across in any English translations (they don't even teach these devices in school and are underemployed in modern literature)! Truly a masterpiece, and Vergil didn't even think it was finished!
It is worth learning Latin just to read it.

But overall, I do like the other choices on the list. Just a matter of opinion where they lie in relation to one another, I guess.
