Apocalypse Now is an all-time great movie not because it is the most entertaining or enjoyable film to watch, but because it goes in a direction no other war movies have ever done successfully, and that is portray not just the horror but the MADNESS of the Vietnam war. I myself don't consider it one of my favorite movies, but anyone with any understanding of film, particularly war movies, has to appreciate what Coppola was trying to do: create a portrait of a nightmarish, hellish, Vietnam that was meant to disturb the audience and quite frankly he succeeds. Titanic is overrated, Apocalpyse Now, while misunderstood, is not.

What's always tough with these particular kinds of lists is the definition of 'overrated'. Just because a movie was or is popular and you don't like it, doesn't make it overrated. Who thinks Training Day is good? Even at the time it got decidedly mixed reviews.

Star Trek IV IS fun, I enjoyed it a lot. But I don't and never did think it was a "great" movie. I certainly have never heard it referred to with enough esteem in the first place to make a top overrated list.

Your description of Al Pacino and his work clearly establishes that you're not familiar with his work, or your opinion is colored by this one movie. Watch him in Godfather and Godfather Part II. Those are two of his greatest performances and I don't think he ever swears at all. Other than that, his performances in The Panic in Needle Park, Dog Day Afternoon and Serpico all have much more nuance and substance than you're giving him credit for. You don't have to like him. But he's not the actor you've decided he is.

Only arrogant trash think that something is overrated.
You should know that you are not special you are nothing like any other person which mean you dont have right to say that your opinion is better so if you dont like these movies its ok but dont act like you have better taste than others.

Dude, thanks you! I thought you were so right about all these movies except Clerks and Scarface. For me, scarface isn't really about the violence, drugs, or language, It's more about Al Pacino's amazing acting. I really got lost in his character to the point where I was glued to the screen and rooting for him, and Scarface has more amazing one-liners than any other film I've ever seen which Pacino delivers perfectly.

As for Clerks, I kinda get what you're saying about the content of the film, but I think what makes Clerks so special is the spirit and tone of the film. Kevin Smith really captured the mood of the young adult generation of that time perfectly in this film and I think that's why it resonated with so many teenagers and young adults and has a huge falling even today.

Well, I do have to agree about SCARFACE being one of the most overrated movies ever filled. However, it is the greatest movie ever made for one reason and one reason only........It is in the records for the usage of the word FU*K more times than any other movie in history.......173 times. (Source : "Inside The Actors Studio". Episode where host James Lipton interviews Al Pacino on the Bravo Station.
