A Song of Ice and Fire by George R R Martin isn’t eligible for this list as the series hasn’t been completed yet.

For me, it’s definitely top 4 material when it’s finished. Absolutely fantastic story telling by GRRM. The political intrigue is unmatched.

Oh, for the record, I could never finish LOTR. It’s 3 times longer than it needs to be but I admit it has to be no.1 for the impact it made. I enjoyed The Silmarillion a lot more tbh.

The best part of this list is “ASoIaF” wasn’t included. I’ve read the four books and it was pretty painful. Generic battle scenes followed by graphic descriptions of incest and pedophilia. The zombies and the badass eunuch warriors are cool though.

Having said that I can’t believe “Malazan: Book of the Fallen” was not included. I found it to be like “WoT” except shit actually happened with regularity (though I still prefer “WoT”). Plus “Malazan” has the two greatest fantasy characters ever in Karsa and Coltaine. Complete badasses.

Also “Mistborn” is pretty epic. The last 100 pages of the 1st and 3rd books brought tears to my eyes due to the awesome.

I’m looking for I guess it would be urban fantasy series with a native american shape shifter, an evil faerie queen who lives at the mall, a woman with some kind of powers who is in a bluegrass or some sort of band– all sort of confused as I only read one book once and didn’t write down title or author. can anyone help me on this? it might have had multiple authors. please email me if you can.

I was terrified by the Bartimeus Trilogy, although that may have something to do with the fact I read most of it by torch at night in a creaky old house. I very much enjoyed it though.

I have read, and loved, half of these.

I gotta tell ya, Wheel of Time is the most awful series I’ve ever read anything of. I read the first 2, the second just to prove my stamina. It’s got the worst series title in history. You could call anything Wheel of Time. “The Wheel of Time: Shakespeare’s Sonnets.”

It shouldn’t be on this list at all. C. S. Lewis should be 2nd.

Why bring the Lord of the Rings on top? Sure, it established a good enough world and all in the book but its not exactly a book that continuously maintains interest. We lose it for large number of pages.

p.s: I actually liked the series but still, it can be as boring as interesting at times. :\
