#2 was a little misconstrued in the implications of the research.

The research was initially done due to the overwhelming deaths of children in orphanages. All these children were dying for no apparent reason even though they were given food and shelter.

He was trying to see if the baby monkeys would rather have a cloth mother without a teet giving milk (a basic need like that given to the orophans) or a wire rack with a teet. They preferred the cloth mother, showing that it was more important to them to have physical bonding than plain sustanance.

The more controversial part of the experiment was where there was only a wire rack with a teet. Those monkeys became very distressed.

After studying this in psychology, we were asked if this experiment was justified. I didn't think so to begin with, but in the end, it saved a lot of orphaned childrens lives. Due to this research the entire system in orphanages was changed and the life span of the orphans increased due to more human contact.

So while I agree that what happened to those monkeys was horrible (i admit, i cried watching the video on it), so was the situation in the orphanages. I don't think this deserved #2.

i don't see how it is unethical to experiment on animals. If those are unethical, we should stop all animal trials and do experiments on humans instead.

#1 is freakingly disturbing. Also I am fascinated by people who were able to teach monkey to do injections (how is it possible?)
