for those music heads - one of my favourite books is Kill Your Friends by John Niven.
An A&R executive for a major label, based in England, during the 90's (when people still bought music, the industry was in the last decade of true excess).
Great read, and one that I keep going back too.
Although nervously recommend it to friends as it really is brutal, racist and at points vile. However, its also very, very funny in places. And if you know/enjoy tales of music industry excess - you'll love it.

Good list but 120 Days of Sodom should have gotten a mention it is by far more disturbing than all of these novels though I haven't gotten around to reading Justine yet, but the 120 Days of Sodom was the defining book for De Sade, necrophilia, coprophilia, you name it, it had it. I am reading Glamorama at the moment it is good, and Haunted was only disturbing for one scene.

I've only read Perfume, and I remember hating it (it probably had to do with the fact that I read it when I was very young), the ending left me literally with this face :O. But I actually want to read all of these, I'm starting with Haunted, I'm guessing if I can get through that one I'll get through the rest.
