There is a bit of incomplete information with respect to the erroneous allegation that there is no population explosion. The same folks who allege no global warming demonstrate the same myopic fantasy. South Africa has been decimated by AIDS. Russia, the Ukraine, and the Eastern European bloc have experienced massive emigration in the face of limited financial opportunity in economies that were ill-equipped for the transition from Soviet-style communism to market economies. Thus the present shifting of the numbers presented here. Unfortunately the AIDS-ridden Third World more than makes up for the few stable and diminishing populations apparent in a few countries. As for food shortages, the supplies really are insufficient, and have been for quite some time. Outstanding among the few nations addressing practical realities of food and resources, China has successfully pioneered a much-criticized one-child policy to manage the food and other needs of their population. I doubt that Americans or Western Europeans would even call the meager sustenance meted out by a few dedicated humanitarian organizations throughout the world "food." Those pictures we see of children sporting distended bellies and undeveloped limbs are real. Survey the large picture and total world people-glut and you will see the population problem is real. We will face unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe if we remain in denial.

We do not use 100% of our brains, nor do we use just 10%. People who have had this surgery are NOT completely paralyzed on one side, and it is well known that the other side of the brain can take over much of the functioning of the removed portion, sometimes even before the surgery. The amount of recovery can vary from person to person, and the younger the patient the better, but the brain is much more plastic than we used to think. As a nurse 30 years ago I was told that after a few months a stroke patient wouldn't recover any more than they already have, now we know recovery can go on for years--the brain can make new connections--not possible if we already used 100% of our brains. Plus MRIs confirm that we don't use the entire brain--those areas don't light up as active. So this "myth" is more right than wrong. I hate that you don't research this stuff. For more info on hemiectomy:

I love Listverse, but some of these authors don't check their facts so take 'em with a grain of salt.

About "Humans use only 10% of their brain" and how that's not true, there is a slight twist of truth in that if you can use "more" of your brain power - you can become a lot more analytical/logical in that our thought process while awake - is often clouded by many other senses and body functions

Humans do NOT use 100% of their brain. If you used 100% of your brain you would never be able to form new memories, you'd have to forget (or "delete") old ones to make "space" for new ones. Also, the fact that a hemispherectomy makes you ignore half of your body in no way supports the idea that humans use 100% of their brain.
