IMO, paying more than $25.00 for a meal is a waste and I can't imagine waiting more than 20 minutes for a table anywhere. I can't imagine any place having food that good. I might do it for special occasions once or twice a year but not if I have a choice. My meals, when I do eat out come in under $20.00 and most of the time under $15.00 I like to eat but I'm not very adventurous. The alginate olives sounded good until he broke it open and the snot like interior oozed out. I don't think I could keep from gagging on one of those. But hey, that's just me. If you are into this stuff good for you.

Other ways I think people are wasting their money. I would never buy a blue ray dvd player and my 20 year old 26" tv is fine for my VHS collection. I have a standard DVD player and I have some DVDs but I'm certainly not going to waste my money on HD stuff. I can tell the difference but it doesn't matter to me. I don't have cable but I do have a DSL line at work for my business (not at home) and My cell phone is a trac phone which if I am lucky I use about 10 minutes a month of airtime

As far as art goes, the best artist I have ever seen is a guy who paints landscapes and nature scenes with a 4 inch house brush. He sets up at the local mall around Christmas time and paints all kinds scenes on all kinds of things like old saw blades, old tractor seats and what have you. I'd put one of his creations in my house long before anything I saw at the Milwaukee Art Museum or I would venture to guess any other art museum.

Of course, a lot of the things I do spend my money on would be a waste to many others so it all comes out in the wash. I'm certainly not condemning anyone who enjoys these things and I admit that my present financial situation has something to do with it but unless I won the lottery I doubt I'd change much even if I did start to make a little more.

My point is everyone has different tastes. What is enjoyable to some is not to others. It is wrong denigrate someone for how they spend the money they earned. It would be nice if those people spending a thousand dollars for a meal would also contribute to charity but you know what, they probably do. If you don't know you shouldn't condemn.

What was once thought as a luxury (aviation, automobiles, computers, cell phones, etc.) is now accepted to be part of modern culture.
I find our society to be so hypocritical. And this is a perfect example. Haven't we been complaining for decades now about the amount of chemicals (preservatives, binding agents, etc) in our food. The meat glue stuff is a nauseating idea, and I see no difference between a shrimp noodle and a chicken nugget from mcdonalds. This is a slap in the face to all those who jumped on the "organic" bandwagon. (i never bought all that, I quite enjoy mcdonalds.) :-)

Throughout human history if humans CAN indulge in aesthetic exploration, they will. It’s as simple as that. And why not? If we didn’t have the instinct to explore and try new things, we wouldn’t have developed as a species at all. And frankly, if we lose that, its a sign of failure.
