The author of this article is wrong on this one (and thus I am hesitant to believe the others). Posting prices in your store is not an invitation to negotiate. It is an offer to contract. I accept that offer by picking up the product and taking it to the register and as soon as I do that a contract is formed.

If there is a mistake in the pricing that’s too bad for the store. Imagine I post something on ebay that is worth several thousand dollars but I accidentally leave off a zero or two at the end and it sells for the initial bid. Do I get to break the contract? Nope. And neither does a merchant. A unilateral mistake as to value is under the law not a reason to void a contract.

I believe what the author meant to refer to was an advertisement of price outside the store. Advertisements are not considered to be offers to contract under the common law. Instead they are considered to be the offers to negotiate that the author refers to.

To whomever it may concern.
I’m not a fanatical christian by any means. But it does concern me a little to see your site connected to The Real Life Of Jesus. It does seem to show a growing disrespect for the christian faith. I grew up with people that survived all sorts of hardships because of their faith. I saw a lot of good come from oridinary people because of their faith, well having a structure. And look , I’m all for discovering truth but subtly undermining the christian life won’t help anyone. Why do it ?

About number 5, it’s maybe true in the Commonwealth and the USA, but for example in Hungary, we have a law that states, if someone put wrong prices on a product, she must sell it to you on that price. Furthermore, if there are more than one price-tags on a product, you should pay the lowest price listed.

This is especially true if they screwed up not just the normal price, but the “per given quantity” price as well (which must be quoted on every product).

I know for a fact that number five is not true in Iceland, a country in Europe. It is written in the law that if the store prizes shown in the shelves or in an advertisement, but the register says differently then the prize listed in the ad or on the shelf is what the customer must pay. This also applies if the prize below the product was in fact for a different product. But, I don’t know if Iceland is the only country that has these law. x.x
