Omega man is definitely the worst adaptation of I am Legend. It barely resembled the book.

I would recommend Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham. It was my introduction to this genre and really hooked me in – couldn’t put it down! I’ve avoided The Postman due to the film, but think I’ll give it a try, along with The Road and The Stand. Reading Earth Abides just now and so far so good – found the first chapters really interesting and engaging. Great list/comments, Cheers : )

A great list! Thanks Grubthrower. Maybe you can help me. I read The Road not too long ago and found myself thinking “I have read this story before, but a different and better version.” For the life of me I can not figure out what I might have read that was so much like The Road in story but better written. Could it have been a novella or short story. I found The Road to be a bit boring because I knew I had read something better. Thoughts? Suggestions?

BTW, copyright for Lucifer’s Hammer is 1977. One of my favorite books.
