Many of you from the U.S.A. keep talking about your need to own a gun for protection. Protection from what exactly? Your government? I guess your government is a tyrany after all, or you wouldn't need to protect yourself from it. Criminals? Every country has them, and in fact, western countries without a right to bear arms have a much lower crime rate. If giving everyone a gun makes a safer society, why does the U.S. have the highest crime rate of any western nation? The constitution you all(sorry, most of you)misquote, says you have the right to bear arms ONLY in specific circumstances for specific reasons. It DOES NOT say you are allowed to have a gun and carry it where and when you want! I would put this to any and all U.S. citizens out there: Doesn't true freedom include freedom from fear? Freedom to go for a walk with your children in the evening without fear of criminals? Your child being free to go to school without having to pass through a metal detector or able to stay in the schoolyard afterwards to play with friends? These are just 2 of many examples of how you are not really free, something many U.S. citizens seem to have forgotten, if they ever really knew at all. My wife is from Colorado. She is constantly amazed when she visits my home. She doesn't need ear plugs to sleep because sirens aren't screaming all night long, she isn't asked whether she has money to pay before being able to recieve medical care, she can walk to the corner store at night and walk home again without worrying about being robbed, something she would NEVER do at home, and she says she feels relaxed and comfortable here. All things she had never experienced before. She still loves her country(as she should, there is still much good there) and always looks for the good in it, but since she's actually spent time elsewhere, she no longer believes her country is "the best". More of her countrymen should try living somewhere else for a year or two, just so they know what real freedom is. Maybe if they did, they could collectively make their own country a much better place.

I love this article! I found the story when released to be the biggest joke I had ever heard. I got a good laugh and moved on. Thanks for showing that I could laugh again at the story.

The resulting debate from this article is even more intriguing than the actual article; I appreciate the thurrow yet concise info, but I am familiar with the contense. I only ask if it is possible for posters to quit the monotany of referring to any one with an opposing view as "stupid" or "idiot". This does nothing to promote your individual standpoint and does not help sift through the facts. (okay moron..o is hard to pass up)

I agree with the stupidity of #5.

There is no single country in Europe in which arms are readily avaliable without heavy control, like psychologic tests, a meaning of use (hunting pass, police, whatever) and I feel pretty good knowing that no burglar is going to point at my head with a Colt, at most they will have some big knife, and I already have one of those in my kitchen.
The right to defend yourself of someone which, thanks to that right, can kill you with ease, looks completely retarded from here.

Also, I don´t think explosives are easy to buy in the US, whats the difference? Both can kill in their own way, and both can be used with some good purpose, mining comes to my mind.
