Ewwww! But rather interesting. I can attest to Red Backs being everywhere! My Dad used to spray them then burn them. Ouch! And my Mum made a habit of forcing me to wear boots outside as there were Black Widows everywhere too!
Interesting fact, here in Australia, people (sometimes even people who have arachnophobia) tend to leave the Daddy Long Legs Spider alone as a somewhat general rule. This is due to the fact that they eat alot of pests, Red Backs, cockroaches ect. They are kinda small, apart from their legs obviously, and are actually quite venomous, though they pose no harm to humans. That's the only welcome spider in my house. All others must face the wrath of my rolled up newspaper!

Hmm, I think you should have chosen a different picture for the Sydney Funnel-web, they normally look alot scarier, larger thicker have such strong fangs they can penetrate through soft shoes and rise up to give warning, they strike repeatedly and give full envenomation. This is the stuff of my nightmares.

I've been sitting here going through listverse for the last few hours, and all the list are just fascinating. However as a Sydney resident, I do need to point out that the spider shown at number 9 "Spiders Love Us" above isn't a funnel web. I've seen enough of them to know. This is what they really look like http://australianmuseum.net.au/Funnel-web-Spiders-Group They're very nasty little buggers. We regularly fish them out of our backyard pool. Someone else may have mentioned this but I didn't feel up to reading 271 comments.
