Fascinating list. Although I must say EWWW!!!
When I was 6 our house was infested for years (Thankfully, now they are few and far between.)
We used to use mentholated spirits on the little critters. I made a game out of it and used to pretend I was a "cowgirl" and "shoot" them. We had to switch pesticides a few times, as they adapted and it no longer worked after a while! I do remember one incident when my Dad killed one I had befriended and apparently named it "Ferdinand" and was subsequently upset. So back then I had a love/hate/creeped out relationship, now I'm just plain creeped out.

Even though I cringe at the sight of them, I find myself squashing them out of mercy, because the pesticide we use takes hours to kill the thing and I feel a little bad for them.

We all used to see brown cockroaches around. But there are also white ones. There are different reports on white cockroaches. It is possible that roaches can be albinos - mutated brown roaches, which lack their pigment due to natural causes or due to the generations grown in sewers. I've also heard, that those insects which lived inside the microwave oven (at the back wall, where the coils are) became white. apparently due to the weak radiation.

I think someone might have already mentioned this, but mythbusters did a show on cockroaches and radiation. It ended up being something like the meal worm or something like that will outlive roaches, but they will still survive a huge amount of radiation.
