Long time visitor. I've read almost half of the entire archive lol. So when I come across something like: "Lest you think only Americans were dumb enough." I find it extremely offensive.

You sir can go to hell.

Here's a few sites that I remember that have been gone for some time now...

word.com - this was a great web site for stories about people's lives combined with some interesting graphics (and audio) for the time. What made the site interesting (for me anyway) was that every story had a series of pages associated using a layout and color scheme that was completely unrelated to anything else on the site - a far cry from template based blog sites that make up most of the web these days.
While the site folded around 2000, parts of it can still be pulled up on the internet archive, but many of the story pages don't work or render correctly.

thecoporation.com - this was a favorite of mine during the late 90s, though I'm not quite sure how to describe it. The quick version is that the site makes fun of a number of internet themes common to the late 90s such as the website icon gallery (remember those stupid web awards people placed on their sites?). The site seems to have folded around 2001 (with the URL changing hands shortly afterward) and is available via the internet archive.
