However, some further clarification and correction is necessary.

Lucifer, morning star and evening star were often used in ancient times to signify the same “star”: Venus. Morning star doesn’t symbolize the fallen angel or “evening star” would’ve been used. It signifies the beginning of the day, the division of darkness and light, and that which illuminates cannot be overcome by darkness.

First, you are correct that lucifer isn’t the name of a fallen angel. But it wasn’t his state so much as his title or office (like president or pope). It’s a title given to one appointed by God to rule over earth. The officeholder is “enlightened” for his role, embodying God’s knowledge, understanding and wisdom to govern earthly affairs. The authority of the office is backed with the power to enforce it, in part, with armor.

An angel was once appointed, but he was stripped of his authority when he attempted to assume God’s place. So God created another being to oversee the planet–from earth itself and yet in God’s image (which is what the angel sought to achieve). Talk about poetic justice!

And when God appointed the man as lucifer, the duties and limitations of the office were set. (GE 1:28-30). More detail was given in GE 2:15-17. “And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.” Why would man need to manage something God created? Wouldn’t it have been flawless? Sure, but perfect systems need maintenance to keep from going out of control. The Hebrew word for dress was actually “work” and keep was “hedge”. It requires judgment to decide what, how much etc to keep it in line.

Well the angel, being none too happy about this and still determined to defeat God, was able to convince his replacement to surrender his authority from God and obey the fallen angel instead. When this happened, the fallen angel assumed the authority and the armor of the man. (Ever wonder how Adam and Eve couldn’t tell they were naked even though they could see the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was pleasant to look upon? And then all of a sudden they could see they were naked! Because they were stripped of their armor.)

This is why, when the devil tempted Jesus in the wilderness, he said, “All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is _delivered_ unto me; and to whomsoever I will, I give it.” (LK 4 :6)

But not only did Jesus refuse to assume title of lucifer this way, He prophesied how He would take it. “When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.” (LK 11:21, 22)

And He was able to achieve this by becoming sin, and accepting death; to be able to enter into the strong man’s palace as a prisoner of death. But once there, He became born again (CO 1:18; RE 1:18.); and being Light itself, overcame the light-bearer and took the keys of hell and death. “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them, who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” (HE 2: 14, 15)

So Jesus has now redeemed man by His death and resurrection, and reclaimed man’s original purpose as lucifer. To take dominion over the earth, replenish it, and purge it of that which isn’t in right standing with God. (RO 5:17, 21; 1 CO 15: 20-26) “And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations. And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. And I will give him the morning star.” (RE 1: 26-28)

“…let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.” (RO 13:12)

So who would want to convince us satan is still lucifer, and holds authority over the earth and the political process in it? “And no marvel; for satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” (2 CO 11:14) To get you to drop resistance to his activities.
