don't know if this had been said yet... (I Didn't take time to go through every single comment, so my appologies if this has already been said...) but to whoever it was that mentioned "I Am Legend with Will Smith... that was originally written by Richard Matheson... (Writing for many episodes of the original Twilight Zone series, and also author of "What Dreams May Come" and "The Incredible Shrinking Man" amoung others..) Richard Matheson has been cited as a heavy influince to other popular writers, such as Stephen King, and Ann Rice... (Stephen King dedicated his novel "Cell" to Matheson, and to film maker George A. Romero).
Also, "I Am Legend" with Will Smith was actually the third or fourth film adaption of the novel... it was a remake of a remake of a remake lol but it was still good in my oppinion. Check out the novel and the original make of the movie if you liked the Smith one (forget who starred in the original). Another good title you can find for free download at manybooks.net is Richard Matheson's short story "Elergy".. it was made into an awesome twilight zone episode (one of my personal favorites) and the short story is only like 75 pages on a Nook.. not sure about Kindle but that many books site lets you download in the format of your choice so you can get it for any e-reader device you own.
This was a nice list.. thx for posting. Wells is one of my all time favorites. I have read his works you listed, and also the Mary Shelly, and "Anthem" but the rest I have either never heard of or never read, so thanks for the additions to my "To read soon" list. :) peace

Free download, it's in the common domain now. Here's the link to Project Gutenberg:

http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/18247

Be warned, it's not the easiest read. The first third is political intrigue, social commentary, it doesn't pick up until Volume II. For what it's worth I thought it was worth the effort, the novel is better than early critics suggest, and much more complex than a simple allegory of Shelley's friends.

This story's not apocalyptic really, just wanted to share with you guys, especially if you love reading twisted horror fairy tales gone wrong,so here:ever heard of this story of "snow white"? sure there's the ending where the evil queen is forced to wear red-hot iron shoes and is forced to dance until she dies but, there's actually an altered story rather twisted,by neil gaiman. This is the link people! :http://www.holycow.com/dreaming/stories/snow-glass-apples#comment-59 scroll up... it's retold by the evil step mother queen herself...trust me,you will never like snow white's character ever again. Also,it's not recommended you let your kids read this tale.
And btw,the title of the short story is: Snow,Glass,Apples by Neil Gaiman.Enjoy!
