Politically, I'm a moderate. And not so strangely, I'm moderate in my operating system and/or kernal preferences. I used to have a 32bit HP 8408us laptop. That model had 2 hard drive bays. One HD ran Windows XP Pro, the other Ubuntu 10.04. I admit there was a time when I thought of jumping ship with Windows. Unfortunately, WINE can't run "everything." There were some software utilities that ONLY ran in a Windows environment. So, I got used to the fact that I'd have to live in a world where I had one foot in each environment to do all the things I wanted to do with my computer.

That laptop died, however (a motherboard issue too expensive to replace), and now I'm "surviving" and communicating on a backup 32bit laptop - for the time being - and it is Windows XP also. However, before the end of next month, I'll be getting a 64bit laptop. Unfortunately, it only has one HD bay - so I'll get to experiment with "partitioning" the hard drive into two areas - one Windows 7 Home premium, one (a new experiment) Zorin 3.2.

However, if I ever get a distro that will run all the utilities I want to run (or their Linux equivalents), I may yet jump ship with Windows. Until then, I'll remain a moderate (grin).

This is a good little article, It promotes linux and that's never wrong. Overall it's not too bad an article, however I would like to correct them on a couple things.

1) Free tech support? Tech support on Linux is trolling for hours on end looking through forums at thousands of posts saying, "yeah I got the #489DF9309 error too, I have no Idea what it means but I am trying to locate the author, I think he has a git hub."

2) There are games on Linux. Whilst this is true, there are very few games you would actually want to play, with that said there are some good emulators and streamers from windows or macs.

3) Today, you can install Linux on almost any machine, and it will recognize all your hardware. Although this is true for the most part, If your running the latest version of Ubuntu Backtrack Linux or Red Hat only, oh and if your not thinking of doing anything like using wi-fi. If your a Slackware and wi-fi is your thing, or even a Debian user for that matter, Squeeze could not pick up any of the wi-fi cards in my previous 5 laptops.

4) You can use both windows and Linux. Whilst this is true. Your not going to wanna use windows once you become familiar with Linux. When you have learnt everything you need to do in window, in Linux, you will never want to go back to using windows ever again. When you realise just how efficient Linux is and how most of your time in windows was taking up waiting for things to load, because your operating system takes 60-75% your ram just giving you your desktop, whilst Linux isn't even breaking a sweat giving you 4 desktops.

5) I know Linux is just the kernel, but people could be forgiven for thinking it's an OS because the GNU/Linux package meshes so well and as credit to Richard Stallman
for having a truly "free as in freedom" software package, and not complaining to much about it, because like Tim Burnes Lee he knows he built it, even if every twit using it doesn't. Linux has become synonymous with the GNU/Linux package.

With that said Linux is still my weapon of choice, but then I have no use for games, Photoshop and I can do my own tech support. Which again posses questions about about number 8) Linux is not only for geeks, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
