Please add, if possible, the Indonesian Gestapo Coup in 1965 in which President Soekarno was toppled. What about Mao's Chinese Communist Revolution in 1949?

Both significantly altered history in their own ways.

K1w1taxi thank you for finally defining the issue with this list. Normally these lists are pretty good to great but this one lacked a rigid application of the title itself. A revolution is not a coup d'etat. Revolutions are mass uprisings or a change in political thought. Like the American Revolution. Destro also had it right.

This list needs serious editing and removal of nearly half of the entries.

Germany is moot since prior to the Reichstag fire you can consider it a German Republic and after that incident you pretty much have to identify it as a one party state of a German Nazi Republic. But again you can debate the point. I would make the analogy to the Evil Empire and the Galactic Republic from the Star Wars movies to provide a pop culture context.

Make sure you apply the criteria of your articles headline to have a serious piece of information. Otherwise you might be accused of propaganda and a bias you may or may not have intended. We all have our biases but if you are providing a top ten list apply the criteria of Coup and not that of a revolution.

To #12 Alex: Why does America need a Revolution??? Things may not be perfect here but they will get better--and we will have universal health care in the next four years. Who says our current economic structure is unstainable? Marxist idiots like yourself or ecofreaks with no conception of economics or the march or technology? What we need is at least a modicum of regulation, not a revolution. What we need are less eco-damaging energy sources and infrastructure--which we will get, and which will enable us to maintain our economy and our standard of living. With smart, non-Bushesque, diplomacy we can keep and even expand our influence and power. What we don't need--and not just us but the entire world--are moronic defeatists like yourself whose intelligence is so limited that they can only conclude that if society isn't perfect than obviously it must be destroyed and rebuilt in an even more half-assed way. America needs some changes made, but it sure as hell doesn't need to become some crap nation where political disputes can only be solved with violent revolution.
