No.2 Rosemary Kennedy. I am not certain as to whether her family members considered her mentally retarded as opposed to being mentally challenged. But her old man (Joe Kennedy Sr.) was about as corrupt of an individual as it gets and he DEMANDED that she be lobotomized. In the past couple of months, I have been doing some personal research on the old man and my jaw just went agape as to what he did and what he was involved with. But two things that you cannot deny about him. He knew how to keep a secret and he knew what to do with money. He even had loose ties with the Mafia and with bootlegging during prohibition. I guess “shrewd” would be the best way to describe him and what a BASTARD he really was……..

This is such a brutal procedure. Alys Robi was born in my neighbourhood and she moved back close by in the 80′s. She passed last summer and it was a major affair. Say what you will, but I don’t think she was ever really sane after the lobotomy. People lead her to believe that she was but her behaviour was odd and shifty. We would see her dressed for a gala at the grocery store and she demanded to be called Lady Alys by the checkout staff (or anyone)

Freeman was an egotistical hellafied douchebag. letting his “job” go to his head. My psych teacher told us about how he volunteered at a camp for mentally disabled people when he was young. He said that most of the people there were, you know, autistic or had Down Syndrome, but one guy was actually the last person to have a lobotomy in the US, and my teacher told us he was… kinda creepy. He was real nice but his personality was utterly flat.

Apparantly one of my teacher’s friends showed him something about the guy in the cafeteria, the dude had eaten everything on his plate except for the peas, my teacher’s friend asked why he didn’t eat them, the guy said “I don’t like peas”, to which the friend went “yes you do”, and he went “oh” and ate them.

They were both like 15 so of course they were stupid… but still, poor dude.

Very interesting, and of course, horrifying. I am still wondering about the 4 year old patient who had this done by Dr. Freeman. I doubt I’ll ever find details online.
