Steven Millhauser and Flannery O'connor are two great writers who could've easily made the list. Millhauser writes discreetly creepy, odd stories that don't particularly scare, but leave you unsettled. O'connor mastered the southern gothic/grotesque form and doesn't shy away from honesty. Cool list I enjoyed it

@ Anne Onemus and rollingpark 22: Thank You!!! Charles Bukowski MUST be mentioned as one of the greatest short story writers of all times. Include Stephen King in the list but omit Bukowski is unforgivable. Also, Hemingway surely deserved to be mentioned as well.

HOW DO YOU NOT INCLUDE RAYMOND CARVER ON HERE?! He is a possible number one on a list like this for short stories and you don't even have him in your Top Ten? Terrible mistake that makes me question how much you read!?!

I knew for sure that Bradbury, King, and Poe would appear on the list. I was a little surprised by the particular order, though. While I agree that Poe should hold the number one spot, I think Bradbury should hold two, and King hold three.

I was disappointed that Raymond Carver, Raymond Chandler, and John D. MacDonald didn't appear on the list, though. Somewhat saddening.
