Shenkui is actually Conversion Disorder, one of the Somatoform Disorders (mood-physical disorders), which is actually universal.

Conversion Disorder is when your body doesn’t/is not allowed to express or act on emotions properly, so they have to in turn translate physically. Headaches, fatigue, sometimes even seizures, fainting and tremors, with no physical root. It’s all psychological.

The reason China has a specific name for it like that is because China is kind of like a pressure-cooker type of culture, where its not quite culturally acceptable to constantly express, so Conversion Disorder would be more prevalent there.

Because of copy-cats. It’s much harder to imitate something that you’ve never heard of than something that is rather well known in your village. I’m not saying that all of this is made up, but comedy alone would make it cultural.
By the way, now that this list has been made public in English, I expect rising numbers of penis shrinkages in certain Western countries.
