Here in Slovenia, there are 2 types of traffic lights. One is on a timer and always lights green and the button is there for blind people, to make a sound when they can go.
The other are in smaller intersections and light on only when the button is pressed, altough they countdown too and if you are lucky you might just press it on 2 sec left.
Also, fail sentences are fail in this comment

It's something they do in the British Commonwealth countries to irritate the commoners. When they stopped the practice of lopping off 'eads sometime in the 1960's or maybe early -70's, the nobility demanded some kind of compensatory practice, and this was chosen as second best without actually killing people. We don't have fake buttons in the U.S. since we still have the death penalty. Naturally it wasn't publicized and they deny it to this day, but this is another one of those interesting facts.

Interesting facts, JFrater! I also laughed at the Placebo street light effect! I always had a feeling that was the case…I mean, it’s not like every second a pedestrian wants to cross the road, the lights will turn green for our sake! Could you imagine the traffic lines??
