Hey, it was in physics too; they were adamant to refuse to award it to Einstein( instead giving it to an unknown engineer researching on a minor improvement of lighthouses. his only qualification- he was Swedish).

Later there was one guy( I can't remember his name) who did not like QM and tried to rob Dirac, Heisenberg and Schrodinger of their due prizes; instead he did not award that prize at all.(imagine, it implies physics in 1931 was unproductive; anybody with a modest amount of knowledge in physics knows that time was the golden age of theoretical physics esp Quantum Theory).

Also, the person after whom many of the particles in this universe is named (Bosons) never got any Nobel prize. Never did the man behind all those talents and father of old quantum theory-Sommerfeld.

Nobel people got it wrong.

I'll add my thoughts too. I have a degree in German Litterature, but we also had a very thorough curse in universal literature, and even before this I loved to read and I confess that I heard and moreoever read all the works or some of them by Theodor Mommsen, Bjornstjern Bjornson, Frederic Mistral, Henryk Sienkiewicz, Selma Lagerlof, Paul Heyse.

Of course, I'm not saying that M.Twain, for example, does not deserve a Nobel, for he certainly does, but please do not underestimate the avid readers.

At least you should know "The Wonderful Adventures of Nils Holgerssons" by Selma Lagerlof, a very good children's book, that is very popular till now in European countries.
