There is another sound I’ve heard in a lot of movies. I first heard it in Doom II on the final level. The sound when the boxes that turn into monsters on impact are shot from the wall, that sound is in so many movies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEwct1gKI-g

Listen at 0:53 and 1:23, at 1:23, I think it’s only that sound playing, maybe you’ll recognize it as well

I can’t believe the lightsaber sound effect didn’t make the list. Ever since 1977, who couldn’t recognize the sound of a lightsaber activating or the sound of it waving around in the air?

I think some readers might really enjoy “Boards of Canada”
They are experimental musicians that make ambient music that is largely mixed from samples of vintage NFB films. The theme is very nostalgic of watching CBC documentaries about nature, etc.

I’ve always wondered why T.V. remotes made a distinct clicking sound in the movies — and why the actor always has to aim carefully and press the button so hard as to make a slight motion — as if he were waving a magic wand. I’d like to add the backdraft sound effect that usually accompanies an explosion, also used on Doom 2.
